Exactly as I have predicted.
sns-4th-a330-300-has-arrived-at-bru-t21962.html
EZY are quickly going to link all of their main European hubs with BRU: first GVA, then BER and now NCE, and don't for a second think it will end there...
My feeling is that by the end of next year, EZY will have about 7 destinations from BRU, with the next ones MXP, MAD and some UK destinations: BRS and LPL seem likely!
Together with Vueling (Spain), Sterling (Scandinavia) and SkyEurope (Central and Easten Europe) this is some serious low cost competition for B.air on almost all but their Italian routes.
I seriously hope the upcoming and long overdue fleet renewal will be focussed around a 130-seater (type A319 or 737-700) rather than the 100 seater they are now finally contemplating, because the Embraer, Sukoi or Canadair regional jets just don't offer low enough CASM to stay competitive! These would have been ideal planes for them 5 years ago, but they need to think ahead and plan for that, taking into account the completely different environment in which they will soon have to fight.
If they really still think that in 5 years they will be able to compete EZY and the others above with planes with a CASM 50% higher than the planes used by the low costs, then they will quickly be shown wrong...

May I remind you that on the Italian routes, they are competing with Ryanair : Milano/Bergamo and Roma, not to mention Pisa and Treviso ?tolipanebas wrote: Together with Vueling (Spain), Sterling (Scandinavia) and SkyEurope (Central and Easten Europe) this is some serious low cost competition for B.air on almost all but their Italian routes.
Admittedly not from BRU - from CRL, which attract quite a lot of custom.

Another possible Easyjet destinations from BRU should be Bilbao (also SN monopoly), with its outrageous prices. Santiago de Compostela and Oviedo are also possibilities, since the North of Spain is not well connected with BRU. Edinburgh and Glasgow should also be possible, together with Newcastle ... Tough times ahead for SN, but if they play it smartly (read "go back to the SNBA concept"), they should be able to cope with it. With their current model, I have my strongest doubts ...

We have to be careful not to start identifying unlikely destinations:
Not saying NCL, GLA or EDI aren't possible for EZY, byt they see very low volume on the route (check the IATA pax numbers) so that even if EZY were to take 100% market share on these routes, they would not even fill half of their plane (once daily flight is considered for this)...
The Low cost concept works well, on condition there is enough volume on a route to fill the planes, that is why you will never see LCC enter low volume markets.
It is precisely for that reason that I think B.Air should still keep about 10 to 15 regional jets in their upcoming fleet renewal, i.e. to serve routes which are too thin to see A319/737 operations.
For the others however, they definitely need A319/737s to compete with the larger planes of the low cost airlines, offering them similar CASM, otherwise they will not be able to compete with them... and they will find even an regional jet too big too fill...

A mixed product 'low cost' 'high costs' and no more Business class is a stupidity...it comes from Virgin staff inside Bru air....this failure will help clean up the house and ex VEX people will go away...
Then Bru air, will switch back to his former model...a real full services airlines, hoping they will this time expand on the long haul, and not only with codeshares...
Leave the full low cost market to Ryanair ,Easyjet and others like Sterling, sky, vueling etc...
Bru air future is not only in the Point to Point market ...Brussels must become a real Hub..look at 9W they will show the way ....what we should have done before is done by foreigners...we all hope 9W will be a big hit and pave the way for Bru air to follow....

Very right, Ericairlines, let's hope they see their mistake soon.ERICAIRLINES wrote:A mixed product 'low cost' 'high costs' and no more Business class is a stupidity...it comes from Virgin staff inside Bru air....this failure will help clean up the house and ex VEX people will go away...

I agree but what about induced demand! I mean Edinburgh is a beautiful city and Scotland is well appreciated by Belgian tourists. Secondly Scotland has quite strong links with the EU due to it being a net recipient of EU aid. all in all maybe a 4 times frequency a week might prove attractive for Easyjet!tolipanebas wrote:We have to be careful not to start identifying unlikely destinations:

Glad they are expanding still surprised why they started so late though! I'm not againsts Bru air not at all but may the best win! Something tells me it will be Easyjet though...

NCL: no way Easyjet would serve it not enough demand!ERICAIRLINES wrote:NCL is served by Bru air
EDI by BMI
GLA by ryanair from CRL
EDI: BMI with ERJ135 I believe no way they can offer sweet fares. Check the fares can't find anything below 120-130 euros all in.
GLA: PIC is not GLA anyway not enough demand for glasgow! Edinburgh usually considered as the gateway to Scotland.
Don't forget that LCCs create the demand, so "nobody" can really forecast how a market will respond to some route opening, and I don't think IATA numbers is a relevant figure, even if it could help of course.tolipanebas wrote:Not saying NCL, GLA or EDI aren't possible for EZY, byt they see very low volume on the route (check the IATA pax numbers) so that even if EZY were to take 100% market share on these routes, they would not even fill half of their plane (once daily flight is considered for this)...
It is passionating to see Ryanair being very agressive to take market shares on EZY traditional UK market with their "attack" on BRS, EMA, London (eg. BRESTN vs. existing EZY BRELTN) and Belfast, and in the same time EZY which attacks FR on all the routes where secondary airport are not convenient, eg. EDIMXP (vs. PIKBGY), CDGMAD (vs. BVAMAD), MXPBRI (vs. BGYBRI), MXPBCN (vs. BGYGRO) etc
It seems that all main citypairs will have three offers: major (hub feeder), "LCC like" (ie. EZY, Vueling... serving main airports but with prices +/- low ), "typical LCC" (ie. Ryanair) where secondary airport with very low (free?) price
In this context, i think that BRUMXP, BRUEDI or BRUFLR should be possible next EZY destinations
