Lourdes has a season from Easter (start April-ish) to end October, and apart from Saint Benedicte's day in February it's a relative ghost town for the rest of the winter. Very nice place to visit though, and a spectacle in itself, so interesting even if you're not Catholic or Christian.
Pau is pretty little city in itself, and as already mentioned it is a gateway to the Pyrenees, and not a million miles away from the Basque coast (Bayonne, Biarritz, Saint-Jean-de-Luz) either.
I used to live in that neck of the woods and am delighted by this route. Have already been planning a visit there, and organising that my friends from there come visit me here in Belgium.
Go Ryanair!

eu01 I agree with you, it is not far from Lourdes, so it could attract some pilgrim passenger during the summer, in order to compensate the lost of ski travellers.
Btw, considering the nationality of the airline, I don't understand why Lourdes is not already a Ryanair airport?
I suppose they are working on it
As well as on a BIQCRL route, which I am sure we all agree to say that it should be a very good route

It seems Pau has been chosen as a ski destination - as were Turin and Grenoble last year.
But Lourdes is not far away. Next year will be celebrated there the "Jubilé", the 150th anniversary of the (alleged) apparitions of Our Lady to Bernadette Soubirous (from february to july 1858).
The celebrations will begin as early as december this year, and will no doubt attract a great number of pilgrims and visitors until the end of 2008.
