Does anyone know why there is a black ribbon on the internet site of LOT Polish Airlines? URL: http://www.lot.com

Also note that the picture of the plane at the top of the page is also in black and white.
In fact, most polish websites have black ribbons and/or are partially or completely black & white, at least on the front pages. Happens once or twice a year.
And of course the media are all over it, sensationalist as they are.

Although it is not longer a national airline: LOT Polish Airlines is a joint-stock company founded after transforming a state-owned company of the same name.Homo Aeroportus wrote:Polish goverment declared 3 days of National mourning following the road accident in France yesterday.
Suppose that LOT reacted promptly on this.
I cannot remind a same move of empathy when a Belgian tour car ran into disaster on the same spot.
What more do Polish people do better?

both not much to do with the actual topic, and bound to ask for sarcastic reactions that will get deleted. And of course the media are all over it, sensationalist as they are.
anyhow, sad enough it happened, so why not show a bit more empathy with the victims, rather than pun media (which of course is politically correct as opposed to pun people).
What a shame. I landed there one year ago at the same time period, and the main construction work was already completed. I will be there again later this week, and it is still unfinished?earthman wrote:Actually, the black ribbon might also be because once again the very badly needed new terminal 2 at WAW will not be opened yet...

The construction is finished, at least of the terminal and the north and south piers (center pier has to be built but can only be built once terminal 1 can be shut down). The problems are with the fire safety systems and with various other systems, there's a long list of small problems. Basically the kind of things you can expect when the rules say you have to go with the lowest bidder. The whole thing was supposed to be ready in 2005.
What you will see is that the plane arrives at a parking spot in front of the new terminal, where you stand next to a very nice looking glass airbridge, then they drive stairs up to the plane, and once the bus finally comes, you go through passport control in the old terminal, then walk back to the new terminal to collect your baggage (after a ridiculous long wait), since that part has been operating since november or so.
