Now, dental experts have raised doubts over the authenticity of a purported Buddha's tooth in that Singapore temple....
These experts claim the Buddha tooth relic could not have come from any human being, actually it came from an animal.
It probably came from a cow or water buffalo.
The public is allowed to see the tooth twice a year, on Buddha's birthday and the first day of the Chinese New Year.
Oh boy, that is embarrassing...
btw, The templedismissed the suggestion of conducting DNA tests on its relic. The monks know better.
The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple (Singapore) (BTRTS) was founded in 2002 by Venerable Shi Fa Zhao. It was registered by the Registrar of Societies in February 2003.
The Temple will be dedicated to the Maitreya Buddha, which means 'The Compassionate One', and also called 'The Future Buddha'.
"In accordance with The Great Compassionate Vows of The Maitreya Buddha, Buddha Tooth Relic Temple (Singapore) seeks to be the best Buddhist cultural complex in the region."
61% of the Singaporeans register themselves as Buddhist by religion.
btw, In Buddhist Thailand, I found one of the most difficult words to use was 'tooth', look at the different meanings.
