SEATTLE, July 12, 2007 -- The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] is pleased that LAN Airlines, South America's largest airline, has announced its intent to acquire 26 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Successful conclusion of negotiations would result in LAN booking the largest order of 787s to date in Latin America.

It's actually 32 787s. Twenty six from Boeing and six leasing, plus 10 options.

And the US carriers haven’t really participated yet.
NW has, and its options are very large compared to its firm orders. Continental more firm right now, bur a lot fewer options.
I wish I had kept a log of the options, and purchase options when they came through. Someone rang it al up a while back and it came to over 1500.
They really did hit the sweet spot with this one.

That’s pretty bad, it took me a while to figure it out. 787+10?
LANs made the announcement, but has not shown up on the books yet.
I would assume a deal is very close, but............
Also notice the first delivery date, maybe a lease, but they may have had slots as well.
Something I don’t think that is mentioned or emphasized enough. The sales pace is generally compared to ALL commercial aircraft sold (single aisles as well as wide bodies).
The astonishing thing is its ahead or close (depends on what time you take the sales count between the 737 and the 787), but it really should be compared only to mid size wide bodies (DC10-MD11-A300/310-A330, 767).
To be in the single aisles records (which outsell wide bodies 3 or 4 to 1) is just beyond belief.
It just should not be happening.
And I say this a bit tongue in cheek, but keep in mind P&W says the GFT can be scaled up or down from its current 20-30,000 lb thrust range. A retrofit engine to the interchangeable engine setup on the 787 and………………………………………….
