It is nice to see such enthusiasm in this forum about our national airport.
But please be a bit more realistic about the future long-haul airlines coming to BRU. Those times when all the major airlines were coming are past. Why would Garuda or Malaysian come back when most of their current and past European routes are loss making. Why would they fly to BRU if they can't make their flights to AMS (for GA) or to CDG or LHR profitable?
Moreover why would TG, SQ, MU come back to BRU if they can't make it profitable five or ten years ago?
About the Middle Eastern airlines with Emirates having more than 50 A380s on order and Qatar having recently ordered 80 A350XWB those carriers will have to fly these birds somewhere. So yes they will probably come to BRU someday.
But is that what really BRU need?
BRU is still a small airport with limited traffic compared to LHR, AMS, or CDG. So I doubt that BRU can sustain three different airlines for the same market to the Middle East with connections to Asia. These will bring useless competition hurting other airlines operating from BRU.
I personally hope to see China Airlines, ANA and Jet Airways coming to BRU in the next years. But what I really want to see is to see those airlines staying at BRU and who can turn these new services profitable like Etihad.
It's nice to see new airlines coming but it is even better if they stay and eventually expand.

I would like to see a Boeing 747-400 or an Airbus A340-600 of Thai Airways in Brussels but the airline left BRU in 1998 when she became member of Star Alliance.
We can say that "Lufthansa keep Thai Airways in Frankfurt".
HU has some A330 on the books with crews training in Toulouse.spotter1102 wrote:Let's hope that the flight HU 491/492 BRU-PEK will become daily within 2 or 3 years !
Disruption of their sunday flight on PEK-BRU-PEK was due to shortage of aircraft as they opened a San Petersburg weekly flight for the russian market (with connectrion to to Sanya where Russians are the biggest foreign market)
Extra flights to BRU (or resuming of the 4 flights a week schedule) might be offered for the summer season of 2008 (and Olympics)
info---
-First deliveries on the A330 aircraft will occur by year-end 2007 and will continue through early 2009. The Airbus aircraft will be configured with the TopSeries i-4000 audio and video on-demand system throughout all classes with Thales’ new 10.6” widescreen displays in first class and 8.9” widescreen displays in economy.-
Hainan Airlines Selects GEnx Engines for its Boeing 787 Dreamliner Fleet
EVENDALE, OH - September 14, 2006 - Hainan Airlines has selected GE-Aviation's GEnx engine to power its eight Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The GEnx engine order is valued at more than $200 million. Aircraft delivery will begin in 2008.
Re: new planes
How can you say that when SN has barely 30% of the BRU market. Compare with AF:KL who has more than 60% both in AMS and CDG, ot BA which has a similar dominant position in LHR, or LH in FRA...rafke01 wrote:In Brussels always BRUSSELS AIRLINES

There will be a focus on the Asian market, that's for sure.
I also expect some new carriers from the middle east.
Africa will only have more destinations if Bru.Air will start those flights. I don't expect any african carrier to come to BRU.
I hope to see at least one south-american carrier at BRU. Probably a Brazilian one.
And I would love to see LAN in BRU. But this will be cargo flights.
Some new destinations in the US will be opened by the major airlines as AA, DL and US.
And most of these new routes will end when a new economic crisis will appear.
I'm happy allready with all those new carriers that started their routes to BRU in May-Jun.
Good luck!

Why that rush??? There is no competition on this route out of BRU. More important is that the route, or routes for all the new carriers, will be profitable and that Brussels Airport can keep those new routes and carriers. That's more important then an upgrade only to satisfy the spotters.spotter1102 wrote:Northwest Airlines upgrading the 757-200 to an A330-300 soon ?
Be realistic, dreams are allowed, but don't see it as a reality. That's not good for the cred-ability of this forum.
Start up a topic or post something when you have confirmation or different confirmations of reliable sources, not what you think.

Why don't you move out and go and live in Paris or London or Frankfurt! You'd have all you ever wanted in life: Variety in both planes and liveries at your local airport!
