Dear spotter1102,

First of all, I would like to point out that there have been at least three Macedonian airline companies operating from Skopje - Alexander the Great Airport and/or Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport:

-Palair Macedonian Airlines was created in the early nineties, just after the breakdown of Yugoslavia. The comany operated flights with one single tupolev 154, a leased Fokker 100 and Fokker 28. Even a BAC 111-528FL One-Eleven was leased from Jaro International. Brussels was never served by Palair, but other European destinations such as Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Berlin, Zürich and Amsterdam were served. The airline ceased operations in 1996.
-Macedonian Airlines was founded in 1992 as a subsidiary of Olympic Airways, the Greek national flag carrier. Until 1998, the airline didn't have own equipment. The airline operated the boeing 727-200 and boeing 737-400 and the McDonnell Douglas MD-83. Until 2003, Macedonian's equipment was frequently used by Olympic to operate some flights. Four years ago, Macedonian was seperated from the Olympic Airways Group.
-MAT Macedonian Airlines is nowadays the national carrier of the former republic of Yugoslavia. It was founded in 1994. On May, the second 2006, MAT took delivery of a brand new CRJ-900 and announced plans to add 2 additional CRJ-900 to its fleet. There are rumours that MAT might replace the only boeing 737-300 in its fleet to become an all-CRJ carrier. IN doesn't serve Brussels at the moment, but has flights to Berlin, Düsseldorf, Amsterdam, Istanbul, Vienna, Zürich, Rome, Hamburg and Paris.
(Please note that until Macedonia's independence JAT was the national carrier).

I have consulted many reliable aviation sites, but I can't find anything that confirms your information. Nevertheless, I think it might be a great idea to serve Brussels as many Macedonian immagrants live here in Belgium. It will be certainly interesting to see a Macedonian CRJ land in BRU!

Cordially,
Christopher

Jetairfly, Macedonian Airlines was never an airline based in SKP, nor in OHD or any other FYRO Macedonian city, but rather Thessaloniki. And i am sure it was created because of the independence of the Yugoslav Macedonia.

spotter 1102, good question, it will happen about the same time they get more aircraft i guess. currently their aircraft is being used for many flights out of Skopje and Ohrid, and have now also opened 2 new destinations to Amsterdam and Paris as mentioned just now along with Istanbul a few months earlier. Currently i can imagine they would be carrying out charters from both Skopje and Ohrid. At the moment, Croatia Airlines via ZAG and Adria Airways via LJU have good connections from Skopje to Brussels.
