SN A319 - Strange Sight

Post by EBBRbased »

Just spotted OO-SSK near the fuel tanks.

The aircraft was surrounded by vehicles, and also the police was present! Very strange things going on...

What's happening guys???

I just came back from the Sabena Flight Academy and the whole area surrounding Brussels airport was crowded with police vehicles and road blocks
At the roadblock they told me a big exercise is going on ...
I even saw the guys from the special intervention squadron on the road to Zaventem on my way home

Big Exercise !

Here is thet text:
Op de luchthaven van Zaventem heeft zaterdagvoormiddag een grootscheepse anti-terrorisme-oefening plaats.
De federale politie simuleert er een gijzeling van bemanning en passagiers van een vliegtuig, dat op luchthaven staat. De politie wil zo de coordinatie en de communicatie tussen de betrokken diensten bij een geval van terrorisme testen.

Yes, it was on the VRT.

Besides that they announced that it was on an SN Brussels Airlines airplane.

Getting your company-name in the 7'o-clock news is always a good thing :) (as it is not negative)

I was on that plane!!

Post by Onetimer »

I was on that plane and it was a great experience! Was the second time that I attended a simular exercise. (First one was in '98 on a SN 747)

There were a lot of SNBA emplyees ... so I am surprised that the Webmasters of "luchtzak" weren't aware of the exercise!

To make a long story short ... the "bad" guys were also members of the federal police and aked as if it was for real ... No laughing in the plane, some of us even got handcuffed!
The hijack it self lasted for approx. 9hrs (started at noon) ... and of those 9hrs we spend 8hrs and 15 minutes with our heads between our legs. around 5PM we got our first cans of cola and sprite and around 7.30PM we got something to eat ... the rest of the time ... staring at the ground with your head between your legs in the spaceous environment of an airliner... try it at home ... see how long you'll last ...

BUT than the last 30 seconds ... to witness, firsthand, the attack of the federal police and see the "Special Intervention Unit" in action with their shiny P90's and MP5's with laserpointers ... THAT was so impressive and made it all worth while!!

P.S. : GD says hello to GS!

If someone knows a 21 to 31 year old girl of the scandinavic type, between 1m60 and 1m70, around 50 to 55kgs, 75C, nice teeth, firm butt and fluently speaking 4 languages AND a simular of the South-American type...

I REALLY NEED A MASSAGE OF MY NECK!!!!!!

Don't tell about the details :!: They should be kept a secret, because it has to work against real terrorists, in case it really happens.
.. and of those 9hrs we spend 8hrs and 15 minutes with our heads between our legs.
So if one day you are in such a situation, you have the experience of how to cope with it as a crew member. It's always important for a crew member to be able to reassure their pax. And having had the experience is the best way to understand their feelings at those times.

ciao,

How could we have known? This exercise was a secret!

I am happy to learn that our federal police has such powerful weapons. CBut could this not be a real danger for passengers? A P90 bullet goes through 5 layers of kevlar, so it could well go through the body of a terrorist or through a seat to hit a passenger

But I am sure that everyone will have learned the lessons from such an exercise, for the safety of all pax and crew.

But in such cases the police will always make a calculation of the number of civilian casualties that is acceptable compared with the number of dead terrorists.
Off course, what if you or someone you know is one of them.
You don't have to think about it.
It's almost a year ago that I was victim of an armed robbery in my girlfriends shop. I saw the gangsters when they ran away and they put their gun under my nose to get my wallet. I litterally ran into one of them. If he had paniced I would have been dead right now. 8O
So in such cases you'll never know what will happen.
One good advise: do what you're asked and don't play hero.
