That is very good news for Boeing!

I don't see how Airbus faces a 'wide gap'... If they are still far behind in 2-3 years time when the A350 design is firm and the program is gaining momentum, then they face a 'wide gap'.
You can't possibly expect Airbus to sell as many A350s in 1 year as Boeing has in 4 years?

The wide gap the article is referring to relates to the 'gap' between commitments and orders for the XWB vs the previous A350 design. See the insert titled 'Nailing Down Orders' in the article.

In my view, that gap represents the 'show me proof' attitude Airbus' customers have taken towards the 350 or, to look at it another way, a loss of confidence in ability to deliver on promises. Others look at it as a function of the XWB design being so 'new' (design not frozen yet, etc.).
