Will be having a few days in Belgium in August, and would like to know if it's possible to visit Grimbergen Airport via public transport from BRU. Also would like to know what the chances of airside/hangar access are at Grimbergen.
De Lijn bus 232 (departing from Brussels North rail station) should get you there. You probably need the stop Grimbergen-Maelbeek, from there it's a short walk to the airfield. Or you can catch the 261 bus (to Londerzeel) from Vilvoorde rail station which calls at Grimbergen Vliegplein (the airfield). The bus only takes about ten minutes to get there, and it operates every 30 minutes.
Last time I asked, I was issued a visitor's pass in trade for my identity card. But this was for an apron visit only, not for walking the hangars.
To get the visitor's pass, talk to the radioman near the "C"; outside office hours one can usually find some members of the local flying club (Vliegclub Grimbergen) in the adjacent bar. On sunny saturdays and sundays, the radio is sometimes operated from the bar's terrace too.
