Iberia going to buy SNBA?

Post by SN30952 »

In the Spanish newspapers....
IBERIA CONSIDERS BUYING RIVALS
Iberia will consider submitting bids for any European rivals that are put on the market and will investigate its options to purchase these carriers.
Possible opportunities for inorganic growth could include TAP, Olympic, SN Brussels or even Swiss, which recently joined oneworld.
Iberia is in a good financial position to make acquisitions, with cash of EUR1.17-billion (USD$1.38-billion) at the end of 2003 SEP and net debt of EUR668-million, Expansion noted.
The group's interest in buying companies is partly the result of wanting to strengthen its foothold at central European airports, which will become increasingly important owing to the EU enlargement in May, according to the report. Meanwhile, Iberia is waiting for the EC to decide on its joint venture with British Airways.

Indeed... when I was reading the thread my first idea was: Spanish airlines Iberia have just taken over www.luchtzak.be

I am sure most users would appreciate an English translation of your -witty?- Spanish comments

Sorry just joking, but it used to be true what was said about the Spanish bitches of CA's.
But Iberia has changed a lot, at least that is the impression they are trying to give on Spanish TV with a series of new commercials about their A340-600's and their cabin attendants's great devotion to the pax.

PS; don't worry you guys, SNBA will keep its own identity.

I have one personal message for Iberia's CEO: keep your hands of SNBA!

But who am I to stop his plans... Anyway, if - and I say if - IB would buy or merge with SN, it seems history will repeat itsself!
In the past - the Middle Ages - we were already (well) connected with Spain... (Margareta Van Oostenrijk, Keizer Karel, ...)

SNBA has always the right to refuse an offer from Iberia. But I doubt that they'll so if Iberia makes an offer of course.

Personnally I don't want Iberia to invest in SNBA at all, even if the SNBA brand stays.

First they shuld start to invest in TAP if they have that much money at all :!:

Usually investors invest in what is good for THEM.
And invest is not infest! And investment is not infestation....

I remember Iberia had already such plans in the middle of the 8ties.
imho it would have saved SN.

I think SNBA should be cautious about any tie up with, or take over by, another airline.

People thought that a tie up with Swissair would be good for Sabena, and look what happened there. It is all very well to tie up with an airline which is currently doing well, but what happens if that airline hits financial problems? They all go down. And I don't want to see another Belgian national carrier fail!!
Sabena and Sobelair - gone but never forgotten.

Off course we all would like to see SNBA remain independant, but on the long term SNBA will probably be too small to survive.

I predict that within some years only a hand full of carriers will survive in Europe (AF-KLM/Lufthansa/Iberia-BA).

That's the reason why SNBA should be happy when Iberia shows their interest.
Iberia is a big player with very good cash in their pocket, it would give SNBA a way to survive in this cruel aviation world and besides that, better together with Iberia then with Air France like we (KLM) are doing now.

Chicas Bonitas (Nice girls, leuke meiden) besided the CA's then or should like older woman
