You're not mistaken Jean, I was -must be Thai new year... ££&@^$:
EVA Airlines became the first Taiwanese carrier to fly over mainland China in more than 50 years, flying over Hong Kong to Kunming and Lanzhou and then Urumqi in western China. The final destination for the Boeing 747-400 was Paris. Rival China Airlines also launched its flight over the mainland, few minutes after the EVA Airlines plane took off.
Taiwanese carriers began flights directly over Chinese territory: Paris-bound EVA Airways flight departed from Taipei and proceeded to enter Chinese airspace the night of Sept. 4, 2005  , making it one of the first Taiwanese commercial airliners to fly over China in 56 years.

A ban imposed by the ROC government on direct transport exchanges with China had been in place since 1949. Due to this ban--necessitated by security concerns--all flights from Taiwan had to take roundabout routes to bypass Chinese airspace when flying to destinations in Europe and parts of Asia.

The ROC premier lifted the ban Aug. 3, allowing Taiwanese airlines to apply for permission to fly over China. The legal procedures airlines have to follow in filing applications were announced Aug. 15, and so far four domestic airlines--China Airlines, Mandarin Airlines, EVA Airways and Uni Airways--have been granted permission.

Also Taiwan has lifted its flyover ban.

There was indeed a time both China Airlines Co (華航) and EVA Airways Corp (長榮航空) had to re-route their flights to London, Vienna and Amsterdam -- which fly over the Middle East -- to fly north of Iran or south of Saudi Arabia.
Re-routing of flights extended flying time by 1.5 hours, the airlines said.

There was more than SIN-BRU-MAN

Post by BrightCedars »

SQ operated SIN-BRU-MAN 3 weekly before withdrawing from BRU but before that they were flying SIN-CDG-BRU and BRU-ZRH-SIN or a combination of that, twice a week or so.

Long before, in the 90's SQ had flied almost daily SIN-BRU-NYC à la 9W.

I remember that in 2000 SQ was flying Brussels - Zurich - Singapour ...

It would be a very good news if SQ decides to come back to Brussels ... For my experience, the services and the planes are top and it's really a pleasure to fly with them !

SQ

Post by BrightCedars »

I flew regularly BRU-xxx-SIN, BRU-SIN-xxx or BRU-xxx-SIN-xxx in the years they were operating at BRU and I have to say I haven't met the same level of service and comfort ever since.
The only competitive experience I ever had was CX.

Back to topic, I've had to fly BRU-xxx-SIN-(HKG-)TPE a few times so BRU-BKK-TPE could be a nice alternative.

Yes it could be nice to see non stop SIN-BRU flights operated by a 777. :)

I think, and this is my personal opinion, is that you find quicker information about this topic on other sites than Travel Magazine. They start up topics when they seen it on Luchtvaartnieuws or Luchtzak or others. They just copy, not all the time, but I have seen it before.

Air China

Post by Airwave »

Last week found a brand new travel brochure in my mail : "Best of Asia" from the well known Australia specialist Aussietours from Staden...

A lot of countries in that region are presented as travel destination (Cambodja, Thailand, Laos etc...) and guess who is the partner airline : China Airlines...

Just coincidence ?

China Airlines have been on the Belgian market and in local brochures for years, but it includes a train ride to AMS.

If a flight to BKK & TPE there will be, we will find out sooner or later.

In an article with Taiwan's Economic Daily the CEO of China Airlines says they will start flights to Brussels and Prague in 2007. Brussels is on the list mainly due to it doesn't the rights for additional Amsterdam flights to use (it flies daily).

Well, that moves this one from the 'rumor' stage to the 'actually planned' stage then! That is excellent news, I can't wait to see them over here!

If China Airlines fly to BRU with a Boeing 747-400, this carrier will be the only carrier to fly passengers 747 into BRU !!! :D :D

P.S : I really hope that the flights will land in BRU in the evening ! :D

Next month, there will be a next trade mission, with Filip, to China.
I think that the final decision will be taken there and that we will know more information in a couple of weeks or months.

Rather unlikely in my opinion ... - the trade mission will go to the People's Republic - China Airlines is Taiwan based ... Unless I am underestimating Filip's diplomatical skills, of course ...

I read the programme of the mission deleguation and they will not go to Taiwan.

Let's hope that the bosses of China Airlines will come in China to meet the deleguation...
