They are going to turn the place into a playground by the time they run out of oil, or at least the other middleeast countries...
How does this one compare to Qatar's one?
11X bigger than HKG.. i mean HKG already has a subway train to access certain gates, how will this one work? having said that i dont' think HKG is operating anywhere near its daily flight limit on normal days, it is public holidays when the airport is attempted to be stressed.

They also have public transport in major european cities that takes some traffic away. They are building the monorail system in Dubai but if you look at the detail you will soon realise that it is also doomed. The rail link is not widespread and in order to get to and from stations guess what the mode of transport is? Yep - the car. There is also the issue of who is going to use it. The population demographic is so strange in Dubai that I am not sure who they expect to utilise it. I can assure you, those responsible for most of the traffic will not be the ones on the train system.......still - I hope I am wrong.
If they were going to build a rail system they should have gone massive immediately with stops all over the city. If they can spend the amount required on an aiport on the all these ego schemes why not a rail system? Because it ain;t flash!
Perhaps someone should suggest the Emir to build a really really fancy subway system?
I dunno if you are joking or not but it is something as radical as that that will be required to solve the problems. It will also need to stretch to Sharjah but the fact the two cities are always squabbling with eachother means that will never happen either.

I guess people don't read the earlier parts of threads.....as was repeated before by others as well as me...Dubai has basically got NO oil. Abu DHabi is the oil gold mine and is slowly making attempts to outdo Dubai at its own ridiculous game. It's like a great big pissing contest with the winner having the most gaudy looking city.

Kind of sounds like the friendly fued between the oil cities of Houston and Dallas in Texas. Its a friendly fight that has been going on for about 100 years

I still dont see a positive future for an airport of this size in this area. Maybe i am wrong ;)

I wasn't joking. But perhaps digging a subway is not the best idea. A few years ago someone had this idea for Seattle to install a huge network of raised maglev tracks with small 4-person maglev cars zooming around on them. You enter at any station, enter your destination, and it takes you there. Personal Rapid Transit. Not sure what became of the idea in Seattle, but this would certainly be something Dubai could show off with.
