New in Mechelen ( B )

Post by MD-11 »

Just saw in the news on a regional TV station that Mechelen has a new souvenir shop. You can buy T-shirts and other stuff that you normally find in such shops but I know at least one member ( or two ) who will be pleased to know that you can also find 230 kinds of beer!
The shop is located in "De Steenweg" the street next to St.Rombouts cathedral.

That sounds like my kinda shop

We were thinking of having another visit to Mechelen sometime, as last time we were there the whole centre seemed to be dug up, there were roadworks everywhere and we would love to see it more intact.

And another visit to Ambrosia (if it's still there) would be very welcome as well

Road works are over ! It is worth a visit now. Have a nice view of the historic center, later have a meal and a drink at the 'Vismarkt'. The souvenir-shop already existed by the way, it just moved.
You mostly have a steady stream of aircraft over Mechelen inbound for Zaventem, probably going to 'Abeam Mechelen'.

MD11, another member of this forum lives in Mechelen, appaerantly. Last year I fly the MD11, nice plane, terrible seats.

I go to school very close to that place (Scheppersinstituut). I wonder if they'll do good business though. Maybe if they has scale models of the tower? I really don't see very many people (except businessmen) spend the night there. 90% of the people staying in the Novotel are businessmen.

I remember Mechelen as a beautiful place but hard to walk around in parts because of the digging.

We stayed in a nice, central location (Express by Holiday Inn on Veemarkt) and would have a stroll around the town each evening before we went into Ambrosia for our beer. The food in Ambrosia was very good too, particularly the steaks.

A souvenir shop selling many types of beer is kind of torture for me now - before we used to buy a few bottles to take home (and even flew over specially to stock up in Brussels) but now there is the ban on liquids it is impossible to do our beer shopping in Belgium  I can only look round these shops and wish they had the same kind of range here at home.

But it also means that I drink more in Belgium to fit in trying a few new types
