documentary about planespotting

Post by valerie »

Hello,
i'm making a documentary about planespotting in Belgium and i'm still looking for some nice stories. So anyone who feels like it, can write me.
All sorts of stories are welcome, as long as they are not to technical.
It's not a documentary about planes, but about the people who like watching planes, for all sorts of reasons.

Impotant: Don't be afraid of being filmed, the first steps are written stories!

Thank you all for reading my message and I hope to get some respons.

Greetz,
Valérie

Thanks for the first reaction!!

I tried to meet some planespotters around the airport of Zaventem, but I think I went to the wrong places. I didn't saw one spotter.
I want to know what spotters like about planespotting and why they watch planes. What do you look at when you see a plane? When did you start looking at planes? ...
I think this is an interesting subject to make a documentary about.

The stories send on this forum will not be published, I'd like to meet some planespotters and talk about their motive.

greetz,
Valérie

Valérie,

this sounds like a very nice idea! I am not a that big BRU-spotter because I work allready on planes about every day but I am sure you can meet some very interesting people on this website who would love to share their experiences!

greetings,

Bart

Valérie,

Don't believe him. He is our biggest spotter. He looks at planes every day when he goes to work or comes back from work or stops at destinations. Look at his pictures database on this website...

Hi Valerie,

Take a look at the Brussels spotting tips in the main menu -> aviation on the left. Usually there are some spotters at the beginning of rwy 25L or at the "asielcentrum" in Steenokkerzeel.

Civil spotters are mostly found at 25L (between steenokkerzeel and kortenberg).

Military spotters are to be found at the spotters corners of Kleine Brogel, Beauvechain, etc ...

The real spotters paradise is (I think) Holland. Maybe you can contact the people of the Dutch spotters montly Scramble (www.scramble.nl) to find Belgians among their subscribers.

You could always come along to Kortenberg on Sunday 12th September 2004 and meet two very keen English enthusiasts of Belgian aviation!!
Sabena and Sobelair - gone but never forgotten.

Most weekdays there will be someone at 25L ( not today as wind in wrong direction! - probably all lurking somewhere in Steenokkerzeel), weekends too. Evenings might be a problem until the lighter nights come back!

There are NL speakers, FR speakers and the odd (very odd I'm told) Englishman (along with occasional Dutch and German spotters - mostly when it is warmer than now).

My advice would be to park your car, near the water tower and wander about as evryone has their favourite spot - mine is the first field entrance on right after the water tower/Jumbo bar - maybe see you there sometime?

Afraid  A TV star like me?!
Wish I could help, but all can I say is that watching planes land ( and even better take-off ) is a thrilling sight. I discovered the 25L site just in 1990 via a friend. Standing directly in the flight path with wide-bodies soaring over your head is like this 8O the first time you see it.
Also the sound and the smell of jet fuel is heavenly.
I even have a T-shirt that says "I love the smell of jet fuel in the morning!" :)
When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return."
