Like many more airlines to follow the old adage holds true!

"A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush"

Now that the orders have started pouring in for the 787, airlines will be lining up to hold their position.

I also read somewhere that Boeing expects that after the first few initial units are produced and all the jitters are done they can produce substantially more components at their various suppliers around the world, which if true would increase production without investing in plant expansions.

You guys need to listen to me more when I say Boeing has been seen in Tempe, AZ quite a bit.

You don't pay for slots for the 787 and not convert those.

Doug Parker said the B787 would be available for delivery in 2011 and the A350 in 2013, you can't but think that had a HUGE impact on the decision. Also there is worry at US that having a single source supplier can tie your hands.

No word on the narrowbody order.

That would be yet another body blow to Airbus small widebody position. They need to keep US Air, and I suspect they will do so by giving away the A350 XWB at great price, which is good for US Air.

Would Boeing fight on price to be a spoiler? Likely, they will push the value down and then let Airbus accept the very low price order

A low acquisition price is only one part of the equation. Those cavernous and expensive-to-fill fuel tanks represent a daily and hungry hole to fill. At $2.00 or so per gallon, and lots of gallons being burned, a realtively small difference if fuel consumption over a 20 or-so-year life can burn up a deep initial discount.

I heard that Airbus did not even submit a proposal (hard to beleive) since US Air wanted delivery by 2013 and the A350 will not start flight test until 2014. Let's wait and see what finally happens.

US Airways purchase of B787 is about as likely as US Airways merging with Delta Airlines.

Reps. from Airbus and Boeing visit airlines headquarters all the time. A visit in itself is worthless if it doesnt result in aircraft sales.

Doug Parker (CEO of US Airways) was on CNBC this morning and said that negotiations were ongoing with both Airbus and Boeing for narrow and widebodied orders.

Can be a mixed order, but i mean there is nothing to hurry about with the XWB.
