They have fewer breakdowns and delays than any others, including Virgin. Another bad one was Arriva, who operate the Scarborough-Manchester-Liverpool-Blackpool services.
Let's blame it on the railwaymaintenance companies. ...joke...
serious now:
I know you know you're right comet. But I was just trying to provoke some constructive reactions when I said those things about Virgin companies considering themselves as high standard, good value for money, ....etc. I just quoted this from Mr Branson. Whenever you see him on TV-interviews he talks like this. Anyway this marketingstrategy seems to be working. Outsiders get the impression that is has to be wonderfull to travel with or work for a Virgin-company.

You are right Chris - I have heard nothing but praise from people who have flown on Virgin Atlantic, many do indeed prefer them to BA (I've flown with BA but never VS, so I can only comment on what I hear from others). The only people I've come across who have flown on VEX have all been on Luchtzak.
Sabena and Sobelair - gone but never forgotten.

the main factor, that makes me decide for a particular airline, is the fare of the ticket of course
other factors are:
the A/C:
the VS A343 has a smaller y-class seat-pitch than BA or VS B744,
which on their turn have a shorter seat pitch than VS A346.
I've travelled on these planes in the last 4 months, and this is how I experienced it. Some BA B744 do not have individual tv-screens, whereas with VS this is standard, however older A340's have small screens with a limited inflightmovieselection and the new VS A346 has large screens with so many movies that you have to fly nonstop for a week in order to see them. Comfort in y-class (because I cannot affort C-class) is an important factor in my choice for an airline.
The mood of the cabin crew:
on a flight to IAD, a cabin crew approached me from the back (I didn't see her) and she screamed in my ear "PUT YOUR SEATBELT ON", there was light turbulence actually and I together with surrounding pax were really shocked by the assertiveness of this CA. And the strange thing was that the entire crew handled in this very exited way. Whereas you would like to go back to a company where a cabin attendant reminds you in a nice way not to forget to fasten your seatbelt as turbulence ...etc.
It's a lot more fun to have smiling (not faked) crew who make jokes with the pax. They make me fly back the same airline.
You have both type of crews with BA and VS, most of the time VS's crew is really very very good. But if bad experiences happen several times in a row with the same airline, I prefer to fly the competitor, taking into account that the air-fare is the same.

"Virgin Atlantic Airways has won rights to fly between Hong Kong and Sydney.
This will allow Virgin Atlantic to connect with Australian low cost carrier Virgin Blue and will also extend the London Heathrow-Hong Kong services to Sidney, all realised thanks to a new air services agreement between Hong Kong and the British government."
