Spotters: Wings And Wheels Ursel, 18-19 augustus 2007
Hi fellows!
As most of you probably already noticed, the Wings-part of Wings & Wheels at Ursel, taking place on August 18-19 2007, will see a considerable increase in size compared to earlier editions. Apart from the aircraft that have already been announced, some more goodies are in the pipeline, so make sure you keep an eye on the official website over the next few months.
This is good news for us, spotters. Wings & Wheels is a smaller event than some airshows, which offers better opportunities to meet the crews of the attending aircraft, not to mention have a chat with other aircraft enthusiasts! It is also an event which attracts aircraft which are not seen as often on the regular airshow circuit.
Of course, many photographers want more than just the opportunity to see the aircraft on the ground in the static display.
Last year, quite a few people inquired about the arrival times of the aircraft on Friday.
This is why this year, we plan to have a dedicated viewing area on-base on Friday August 17 with the sun in the back, not too far from where the aircraft touch down. This is no doubt interesting for those among us looking for a different shot than a landing aircraft with its gear down. When all aircraft have landed, there could also be the possibility to take some additional shots of the planes before they are fenced in for the public and a drink at one of the many concession stands afterwards, while the wheels-participants set up their camps. Also on Friday August 17, between 15:00-16:00, a special visitor will be doing some fly-bys for the spotters.
All of this is a special offer for only 10 Euro, which would include access to the airfield on Friday August 17 to watch the arrival of most of the static aircraft (8:00-12:00, plus the fly-bys of a special visitor) and on either Saturday or Sunday. On Sunday August 19, many of the participants will leave Ursel weather permitting. There will not be a special area for spotters then, but you can still see them taxi out and take off.
Details will follow soon on the official website.
Greetings Rick and Chris

Or should we say 'quite a few people were there and watched for free, why don't get some income from that also' ?
Nothing personal Rick, but all the fuss around W&W make me think the only thing that counts is $$$. Before finding some new sources to get some money in the pocket, make sure when you ask people to pay at the entrance on sunday to watch all the vehicles, that all the participants are still there. Last year I went also, I arrived, I paid and more than half of participants were already leaving or preparing to leave ... It's not the first year I, and not only me, have this remark.
I know there's a lof of effort and energy required to organise something like wings and wheels, but before starting something new, make sure all the rest is well arranged, I'm happy to hear the shuttlebusses are back
To avoid misunderstandings, I certainly don't have any problem at all to pay for something, but only when I pay for something, I expect I receive what I've paid for, and that's not seeing a bunch of vehicles that are being loaded on the trucks to leave or a traffic jam of participants while they leave the airfield
Re: Spotters: Wings And Wheels Ursel, 18-19 augustus 2007
It makes me very sad to read this comment. As a person who already spend more than 500 hrs of work (as a volunteer = FOR FREE) to prepare WAW this year. I can say that WAW is a complete non-profit event. ALL our income goes to good causes as you shurely must know.Bottie wrote: but all the fuss around W&W make me think the only thing that counts is $$$.
The entry price for this year is 8 euro. This is not much compared to an other (non-funded) event. This year, we have made the program more complete with a lot more things to de there. (more bands and artists will preform at our event, pipebands, ...) Please check the wesite.
You can't see everything at WAW in 2 hours. So if you arrive after 15.30h on sunday, you may be faced with this again. There is much to see this year (even on the sunday afternoon with the eurofighter flypass). Look at the program on the website to make shure that you get there in time.Bottie wrote: I arrived, I paid and more than half of participants were already leaving or preparing to leave ...

I'm talking about the fact people have to pay the full price to see half of the participants leaving. You must know I'm not the only one thinking of this ... Or you make clear to the participants they have to stay untill W&W closes it doors ...
About the 'money-thing'. I don't care you make profit, it would be really bad if you lose some money every year. If I was sure I was free that day, I would be happy to pay the 10€. If I'm free friday, I will be at EBUL for sure, enough open places around EBUL (since the registration period is over), I also wonder why it is necessary to register ...
