I know this is a long shot but is anyone going to the Australian Aishow at Avalon this week?
Will be there Friday.

Yes that was rather unfortunate, and a horrible thing for those who died and their families and friends.
Friday at Avalon was a awful day.
Temp was around 40c, wind was blowing at about 40kts, and because of the drought, the high winds were picking up a lot of dust and vegetable matter making everyones eyes sore.
To top it off, the Boring and Airbus stands were heavily militarily dominated. At least the Airbus stand had some commercial aircraft models. The closest Boeing got was a photograph or two.
It is without a doubt a military and GA dominated show.
Nice to see and hear the old warbirds, and the fantastic T/O and landing performance of the C17 and the old DH Buffalos with their big radial engines. I find the flying routine of the modern jets a bit monotonous, they are all good but from the ground it is impossible to tell which has the better performance. A 52 made a flyover and that was good, (and quiet).
South Africa was there in force with not only Super Puma helicopters but large mobile artillery pieces also.
Both EADS and Alenia were showing off their buffalo replacements. Unofficial word is that the military want the C27 Spartan, because of its better performance, but a lot more than aircraft performance comes into these decisions. Some rumblings of discontent about the choice of the 330 Tanker. It carries more fuel further but apparently because of its size and performance will be unable to use a 1000 airfields worldwide that the 767 can. Too far down the track to change this anyway.
A bit of discontent with the Eurocopter Tiger which is not meeting its performance guarentees without modification. At least these are being built in australia.
Cheers
