I did a flight Dammam to Bahrain once on KLM a few years ago. They have changed the routing now to Doha - which is still short. The full routing was AMS - DMM - BAH and it was a Boeing 767. I remember it taking off from Dammam, following the causeway straight to BAH and landing - 20 mins maybe?

Emirates and the other gulf carriers frequently use wide bodies on short hops of an hour or so.

Indeed in the gulf region, you have a number of s/h w/b operations!
I believe the DBX-AUH link must be the shortest.
I suppose Emirates or Etihad or both serve this route using A330 type a/c.

Back in September 1996, My wife and I flew with THY A340 from Istanbul to Antalya. The aircraft was full. Not even one seat was empty. I was surprised very much. But those days' Antalya domestic terminal couldn't handle our luggages. We have waited almost an hour to collect our luggages.
