That may well be, but QA has pretty much stuck with Airbus on the A350 through thick or thin, despite the very public, but very much deserved bellyaching (to spur Airbus on). I've little doubt QA will continue to stick with Airbus on the A350. This, depite the fact that they have (and will continue to) pay a pretty price for it's dogged support for Airbus in the form of unrealized revenue and impacted it's planned for growth rate until Airbus' reality lives up to its promise.Ruscoe wrote:I think you will find this is merely a LOI with an expected firm committment at Paris.

From a Wikipedia entry for Qatar Airways:
Ruscoe, it's a mystery to me as well as anyone, I've no special insight on the inner workings of QR. [My apologies to AVION1 for my ignorance.]
Being a launch customer to two Airbus models (A319-100LR and A340-600HGW) as well as standing by Airbus through the troubled development of the A380 and A350 certainly makes one wonder if there really isn't a reason behind QR's stance. The lone standout of course are the orders for the excellent 777 models, but then, there isn't much competition there, yet, is there?
In the ATP Berlin travel fair held in March 2007, Qatar Airways stated its intent to order up to 80 Airbus A350's, an increase of 20 aircraft over their previous intention.
It will definitely be interesting to see what shakes from the tree at Paris!I agree that the firm contract will be fixed at the Paris Airshow.

Maybe they are just a loyal customer? Airbus has also been with Qatar Airways from their beginnings and Qatar have always said they have been delighted with the aircraft they have received. In addition, have Airbus given Qatar sub standard products at any time? No. Even when the 346 came on Qatar used this as the flagship in advertising....a delay in a very small sub fleet of 380's is it. That's all. So no wonder Qatar is happy with Airbus.
Surely this order has more to do with the fact that the State of Qatar wants to buy into the Airbus company (more money than sense) rather than the actual aircraft.....this is pure politics and has nothing to do with Airbus,s ability to sell aircraft or make decent aircraft - whether they are A380s or wooden model gliders.....of the push together variety
Chairman Akbar Al Baker's statement

Words fail me. Interesting way to raise the value of your shareholding in an organisation....spending more than your investment again on your own products?!!! Lucky then that Qatar hasn't cancelled its T7's eh?Rui1950 wrote:Surely this order has more to do with the fact that the State of Qatar wants to buy into the Airbus company (more money than sense) rather than the actual aircraft.....this is pure politics and has nothing to do with Airbus,s ability to sell aircraft or make decent aircraft - whether they are A380s or wooden model gliders.....of the push together variety

Theres nothing better than slow cooked fall off the bone BBQ, Texas style
"The contract for the 787s is frozen," Aeroflot CEO Valery Okulov said. "It's hard to say how deep that freeze is."
Sounds like he wasn't the one to freeze the contract. Rather it was frozen for him, and he doesn't know whether he can unfreeze.

By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly an airplane?
I found this part interesting.....
The move follows Russia's foray into Airbus parent EADS (EAD.PA: Quote, Profile , Research), the world's second largest aerospace firm in which Russian state bank VTB last year bought a five percent stake
The deal will be done in the next few weeks," Okulov told reporters. "Yes, we're signing for 22, and it's a firm contract."

From what I have been told by people at Boeing, they have already allocated those delivery slots to a yet to be identified customer. so if Aeroflot changes their mind once again they go to the back of the line.
