Flybe's website saying today that they will be flying BRU - MAN from March 25th, taking over from BA connect.

What's the current and future situation of brussels airlines on this route? Is there a code share? The aircraft of which company are used?

Nice that my avatar namesake will introduce flights to BRU, and that even on my birthday!

Now, when I chose this name for Luchtzak, I just did it because I liked the name, but I just knew something special had to come from it :D

Unfortunately I'm not planning to visit Manchester anywhere soon, otherwhise I would know which airline to try! :kvole:

BA said the sell-off will cost them £105million.
Flybe's acquisition of BA Connect creates Europe's largest regional airline, with 152 routes from 22 UK and 34 European airports.

Flybe's numbers nosedive into red: FLYBE slumped to a £12.2 million pre-tax loss in its latest trading year, reversing from a profit of £7.8m the year before.

433 Jobs axed as BA sell routes: The cuts come as British Airways signed off on the sale of their loss-making regional business BA Connect to rivals Flybe.
Doubts were cast last night on the right of British Airways to "fly the flag" as it announced hundreds of job losses in Scotland.
Ground staff in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh were yesterday told they would almost certainly be transferred to handling agents. The news was broken to some while they were serving passengers at check-in.

All ground handling at Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester airports is being transferred to contractor Aviance UK.

In all, 730 jobs are affected across the UK and BA staff have been offered voluntary severance, a move to London or a possible transfer to Aviance.

Aviance UK
Aviance Ghana
Laufer Aviation

Flybe is to close down its operations at Bristol airport except for its Jersey route from 25 March.
Paris, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Glasgow and Edinburgh will be affected.

Hi,

Well, I guess I had the opportunity to fly one of the last few flights on BA Connect last weekend from Bristol. Truthfully, I do understand why they are closing this station. Load on both of my flight, BRS-GLA and EDI-BRS, the loads were really light. If it was not for the onboard food purchase, you would think you were flying in your own Exec. class with just about 1:8 ratio.

In my opinion, I really think that the BA Con as part of BA was not appropriate, it just did not go along with the general impression of the service you normally would obtain from a mainline service, ie food for purchase onboard. Since now FlyBE has taken most of the route, this would seem more appropriate to have this food for purchase onboard.

PS: Anyone know why is there is direct flight of SN (or Brussel Airlines) direct from BRS to LYS? I am not sure if it has a stop in BRU, but at BRS I noticed that it was quoted with a final destination as LYS. I did not know that they could fly direct from UK to France. Any comments or info on this.

:D

The main reason to stop these flights is competition with EasyJet who is very succesfull on BRS-GLA and BRS-EDI.
BA created BACON in an attempt to compete with Easy, BmiBaby and Ryanair but it didn't work... Just like Go and Dba didn't work when they were BA.

some of the new code-sharing from BA/flybe seems quite random, why, for exmple are they continuing to code-share from birmngham? BA itself has no more operations there...unless it's to connect passengers through from SunAir of Scandanavia..?Also, why code-share Edinburgh-Paris? Is it for the benefit of Finnair passengers that may want to connect through? I think they'd do well to code-share routes like LGW-BHD, LGW-GCI,LGW-JER, MAN-NWI, MAN-EXT and MAN-SOU

Does anyone know which aircrafts flybe will use from MAN to BRU? Will they continue using BA connect aircrafts till they get new ones or will they already switch to FLYBE aircrafts? (Embrear 190 for example :))

Initially, the BAe146s taken over from BA Connect, but later the Embraers of all sizes.

The timetables have appeared in Brussels Airport's website. And it seems that the codeshare with SN has gone...
