MP 951 long delay - OO-TUC no longer alone

Post by sn26567 »

Martinair MP 951 due to leave Sunday 11/02 at 18:25 to Colombo and Phuket has not yet departed. It is niow scheduled for Monday 12/02 at 11:40.

Anyone knows the reason for such a long delay?

About OO-TUC, no problem. It left this morning to Puerto Plata and Punta Cana with less than one hour delay.

Plane departed 13:30.

Only 19 hours late.

Some passengers will remember their vacation. I hope they were treated well. A night at the Sheraton? I was there yesterday and did not see them...

Aircraft is still in the hangar with the strut problem, Martinair had send another one from AMS that left today...

This aircraft left AMS yesterday evening after a delay of 2H30' with this problem,a friend of mine was on this flight (AMS BRU); in AMS they replaced the rh fwd tyre, made a rolling test and went to bru, so I have a question, is this failure "strut leaking" a big problem for the safety of a flight?

A strut is part of the landing gear.
It acts as a shock absorber in your car.
It is usually filled with hydraulic fluid under pressure, and sealed of with a seal. probably that's were the leak is.
To BRANCOCALIENTE: yes, it is an important part of the A/C. You could seriously damage the landing gear and the structure of the aircraft if you loose all hydraulic fluid.

thanks for the explanation!
I think we've seen this problem already in "Luchthaven, HLZHI": wasnt the legendary "Biman pilot: only a leak?" about the same problem?

The strut of the martinair aircraft was empty or you can call it flat, almost no air pressure and almost no liquid in it any more...
You have limits, but this one was out of limits...
