AENA and Air Madrid

Post by asturex »

I don't think AENA is responsible directly, but both AENA and the regulators that are responsible for licencing Air Madrid do seem to come under the same Civil Aviation directorate of the Ministry of Development ('Ministerio de Fomento'). It is this directorate that is coming in for a lot of criticism at the moment.

Some 120000 people are still holding tickets to fly MN, some 5,000 Peruvians were trapped in Spain. (And isn't one in the Netherlands?)
Air Madrid had tapped into the market for bringing migrants to Spain.
Spain has taken in 2.8 million people - mostly Latin Americans - over the past six years.

It seems that there are still stranded passengers around South America and Spain.

Does any one know if there is any low-cost flights left now between South America and Europe?

Now that Air madrid seems to be in its final stages there is www.airmadrid.tk for those affected by Air Madrid.

I will reply all in one to some comments on my last posts.
I agree in that case it was a schedule problem since they should have adjusted their schedules when 3 planes were AOG.
However, they were wet leasing 757's from Air Italia but it was still not efficient enough.

2nd comment I saw was that they were offering schedules which were attractive for customers but they were never flown as mentioned.
Same with the MAD-LIM-MAD, this was shown as a direct flight but in practice they always made a stop in Fortaleza, Brasil.
Funny details is that is was always a technical stop (bye bye european law since in case of technical stops compensation is not allowed).

The case so far is that passengers who booked their flights with a IATA travel agency will be refunded probably 50% of their ticket.
How and when this will happen is not known yet.
This is very inconvinient since people who want to buy another ticket do need that money or at least want to have it asap (just like us!).

Last reaction on a comment which was about my
This was not mentioned as they sleeping at Air Madrid but that I was getting tired and went to sleep :D

Anyway I will keep you posted about any developments and please if somebody knows more keep me informed also.
Last but not least:

Merry Christmas and a Happy, flyable 2007!!!

LTU will operate some of the transatlantic routes of Air Madrid.
They will hire about 52% of the Air Madrid stuff.
If you have a ticket to fly with Air Madrid, contact LTU because I have read that they will accept it (although I have read that they will charge you a fee of about 250 Eur to exchange the Air Madrid ticket for a LTU one).

What is LTU?

I found the following on http://www.airlinecodes.co.uk/:
LTU International Airways
Germany
but somehow it doesn't ring a bell.

LTU will take over most of Air Madrid's Latin American routes and about half of its staff, the Spanish Infrastructures Ministry said Tuesday.
LTU would take over Air Madrid's routes from Spain to Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama and Peru. not the routes to Brazil and Colombia.
The agreement will supposedly go into force by the end of the month.
LTU will also take over 568 of the 1,089 Air Madrid staff.

Today in El Pais: LTU accept Air Madrid tickets until June for a 250 Euro supplement.

LTU Spain will be the vehicle, as LTU does NOT buy Air Madrid, nor will it be involved in debts left by them.

German newspapers know:
Der Nationale Gerichtshof eröffnet ein Strafverfahren gegen Air Madrid wegen mutmaßlicher betrügerischer Straftaten.
and:
Über 60.000 Fluggäste von Air Madrid können immer noch nicht nach Spanien zurückkehren 05.01.07. (What did I say earlier, Why did you not believe me? It is 60.000 left after more than 3 weeks...)

El Mundo reports that the Ministry for Development will take what it is owed from the assets of Air Madrid, before those who have been affected by the collapse of the airline.

El Pais: (EP - Madrid-09/01/2007)
Air Madrid revela al juez que inyectó 7 millones después de suspender sus actividades

btw 60.000 x 250= ?
