Could it be that is AIR CHINA (ex CAAC) which ordered the 748, and not China Airlines?

It is then possible that there would have been a confusion.
I do not remember the exact denomination of Air China (CAAC, Beijing), but many people use "Zhong Hua Hang Kong" as a short or nick for it.
However, Zhong Hua Hang Kong is the official name of China Airlines (Taiwan), which they short by calling it "Hua Han".
