Have you checked American's fares already? They do offer smoothly connections out of Brussels via JFK and ORD to Mexico City.
I don't know their fares by heart, but they are similar to those of BA, KL and other major carriers.

I think some ppl try to avoid the american carriers because it's quite unclear for us what kind of security one faces. For instance when I was searching a nice fare towards Managua in the last part of this year I was attracted to an AA fare... the hidden security charges (160 €) changed my mind however.
(hidden as in only visible in the last step op booking.. while UA and others already included them in their fares and as such seem a lot more expensive)
But my main reason of not wanting to fly a US carrier back then was that I couldn't get a clear idea of what amount om time my transfer in the US would take. Travel agent offcourse stating it goes very smooth and a two hour transfer time is no problem... while travel forums were saying the complete opposite.....

Avoid Iberia long haul as their service is worst I have experienced across the atlantic to Havana.
Lufthansa are fine....as long as you dont need any assistance as they dont seem too interested in customer service

If you are tavelling cattle class American have 2 or 3 inches more leg room than any of the others - though their 777s have a 2-5-2 configuration which means you could end up in the middle of 5 which I would hate.

As from January 10, 2007 American will add the Q-surcharge (or security surcharge) in the general taxes. This means that the base fare remains the base fare throughout your booking until the moment when the taxes should be added.
PS: the Q-surcharge is 65.00 NUC oneway - app. 102.00 EUR return

I am flying with klm every 17 days to mexico. If you like flying klm is the only one that flies every day with a 747-400 to mexico city.
British Airways flies also with the 744 to mex but not every day, so klm gives you much more possibilities.
Amsterdam is also a easy airport to get your connection, no different terminals, so you can save a lot of time.
From bru there are a lot of flights to amsterdam.
The foot is completly different since the 1st of dec.
I think klm is the best option.

It seems you received a good number of opinions on the best option for a BRU-MEX flight. I understand KLM fitted your plans the best way, and even if I have never been to Europe, I have heard very good experiences from people who leave here in Mexico and have travelled to Amsterdam by KLM. I add myself to all the opinions who recommended you to avoid Iberia, I know lots of complains about their lousy service.
Aeromexico was not an option from MAD or CDG, right? I believe the entrance of the Boeing 777s to the fleet -and to European flights in particular- has meant a big improvement, considering they have a new in-flight entertainment system (AVOD system in every seat for each passenger). But, as Aeromexico started service to Asia (Narita) and only has 3 777-200 at the moment, the flights to CDG are being operated by Boeing 767... certainly not the same as the 777. Anyway, Aeromexico's service on board for European flights is known to be pretty good.
Please feel free to ask any advice you might need prior to your trip; if there is something you need to learn about Mexico, just let me know.

Yes, it's doable. But will it be doable for you? I transferred at Schiphol in November. Arriving on a KLM cityhopper flight from Brussels, flying KLM to Kuala Lumpur. There was only a 50 minute interval. The plane left Brussels 25 minutes late. On arrival you first have to board a bus that takes you to the actual terminal. After that I had to run like mad to get all the way to the other side of the terminal to get to my departure gate. When I set foot in the terminal, the screens indicated that the departure gate had already closed... Arriving at that gate I noticed a long queue, as security was asking every individual traveler if they had any liquids, gels, toothpaste... in their handcarried luggage. This was my saving grace, of course. By the way, after we had boarded there was a 1 hour delay because there was a hydraulic problem...
All I can say is : don't hang about in the terminal, just get to your departure gate as quick as you can.

1. 1 hr 10 is plenty at Schiphol if everything is on time. In fact I have been late on arrival and transferred with 30 mins before but that was luck.....definately the best place to short transit in Europe.
2. When we went to Mexico a few years ago we spent 5 days in Mexico City which is phenomenal. Forget the fact it is dangerous.....in parts. just watch what you are doing and where you go and you will be fine. it would be a real shame to miss out the anthropollogy museum, zocala and castillo as well as nearby Teatihuacan pyramids.
We then took a battered AeroMexcio Dc9 to merida - a fantastic colonial old town / city. beuatiful place.
Finally we went to Cancun. Don;t bother. Like Tenerife - except for the old town which was ace on Independence day. That said, the beach is amazing in Cancun - especially at Isla de Mujeres. We then got a Mexicana 757 back to Mexico City before heading home.....

Thanx all of you for your great help! I've booked my KLM flight 2 days ago. I am going to do the 1h10' transfer. This will get me into México faster than any other combination. The flight is booked 15th-27th March. For those who are interested I will let you know how the flight was.
I am sure that the country will be great since it's my 2nd visit. But the first time I visited the southern part (Cancun/Merida/Campeche/Uxmal/Palenque/...). Now I will visit the central part (Districto Federal/Tlaxcala/Puebla/Guadelajara and Veracruz).

No more DC-9s in Aeromexico's fleet! MD-80s and new or very recent 737s now cover all the domestic flights, while 757s, 767s and three 777s fly the international routes.

Hi chunk, yes indeed, Aeromexico's last revenue flight in a DC-9 took place on August 31st, 2004, then it should have been one of the very last DC-9s in the fleet. AeroCalifornia is currently the only Mexican airline flying in DC-9-32.
