Can someone identify this plane ?

Post by ElcoB »

Sombody emailed this picture to me.
Only things I know: it's a Russian plane from around 1932 and it did testflights before it crashed.
Sombody has an idea what plane this is ?

I believe its a Tupolev ANT-20 of which there was only one! commonly called the Maxim Gorky, widely used for propaganda flights. If I remember my old books it crashed during an aerial demonstration, killing about 60-70 people

You are correct! a better picture shows more detail, I believe that its a ANT-20bis a derivative model.

Maybe Tupolev ANT-26 named as TB-6 ? 12 engines, wingspan of 95 meter. But for me this picture doesn't look real, more like CGI.

Looks like CGI to me too, though its configuration seems to be based on the Kalinin K-7. As far as I know, all Tupolev aircraft from that era (1930's) were taildraggers, which rules them out.
