Its such a recognizable model in the Industry they would be wise to retain it.

As far as I know, and its only from people within Boeing that I have contact with have told me, the new aircraft will be of composite construction and will dovetail into the 787 program with commonality for cockpit operations. Understandably they are reluctant to reveal too much detail, so there will be lots of surprises.
Bits44 is generally accurate, but thee is now way they are going to keep the 737 designation.

Its out of compliance, and it has no excitement factor. The big question is that as they are going to do 2 different ai5rcat, the bigger one (or first) gets the 797, and then what number do you use?

Marketing will find something we all groan at, and then get used to. I loved the 7E7 designation, and still wish they had kept it (and with 27 letters in the alphabet, you have endless new models to choose from!)
