Fire on US Airways 737 in MIA

They are calling it a "landing gear fire". Sounds like everyone is OK. I was on this plane just a couple weeks ago.

Two of the tires blew out as the plane was landing and one of them caught fire. All PAX and crew are fine and the emergency slides were deployed.

The grinding of the landing gear produced sparks that set fire to the blown tires, must have looked like the B6 320 at LAX.

If you look closely at this picture, you can see the fire burning on the landing gear.

From what I've heard, no panic and the PAX were very calm about the whole thing. Always nice when emergencies end like this. Just goes to show you how well even old Airbus and Boeing aircraft are built.

Yes, James, the passengers are not aware of the fire, unless by night, then som glow is visible, I was told by a passenger who experienced such an happening in the dark. He said the noise was not much, anyway not from where he was seated.

And the panick sirenes were not switched on, so the haertbeat stay at more or less acceptable level....

Any news on why the tires burst on landing, or why they were on fire? I hate to think that the tires burst because they were many fat people on the plane when it landed.......ok, bad joke, I got it from Jay Leno last night!

I'm on vacation so I haven't heard much.

I do know that the PAX said it was a normal landing and then got rough. Might be the anti-skid not working?

Looks like an Iranian Airliner had almost the same problem, but with 29 killed. Those Tupolev 154s are a death trap compared to Airbus and Boeing. Hopefully the UN can come to some agreement over the Uranium enrichment issue so Iran's airlines can buy "western" aircraft.
