ANA new destination
ANA announced Chicago as its new destination ex NRT starting on 29OCT06. When do we get such news for BRU ? After several Belgian governmental missions to Japan the restauration of the former air link with Japan almost looked a fact. Or will it be starting in summer season 2007 ?

Hello Captain,
Nor JAL, nor ANA have served Brussels before. Sabena did serve Tokyo from Brussels before its demise. In 1969, the Belgian carrier even opened a scheduled service to Tokyo (Haneda?), but as a part of the 2001 business plan, services from certain non-profitable routes had to be withdrawn resulting in discontinuing services to Tokyo (and Washington). ANA would love to serve Brussels from the Japanese capital, but there are apparently some "slot"-issues. According to some reliable sources, operations could start as early as summer 2007...
Hoping that this information is useful,
Christophe B.

ANA and BRU
Is a long story!
ANA has operated before to BRU in coop with SN, changed to opertation by SN and that was stopped due to the bad situation SN was in, not because it wasn't profitable. BRU-NRT (and vs) is a profitable route due to high yields.
What will the future bring? Nobody knows, although... What I've mentioned here before is that next to the increase of capacity on CHI, laso Europe will see its part next year. ANA shall open a 4th flight due to high demands. It's going to be a successful flight due to its schedule and competition with European carriers will be much higher. Aircraft used will B777 like on CHI, will updated ANA new style. Which destination it will be in Europe, we'll see but a big chance is that it will operate to a city already in use by ANA. But never say never in airline business...

Any particular reason for that ?snowflake wrote:Which destination it will be in Europe, we'll see but a big chance is that it will operate to a city already in use by ANA.

Thai ? ANA ?
Any news in the meantime ? Would be great for BRU Airport to host these carriers and maybe a good opportunity for Brussels Airlines for new codes shares to Asia.Atlantis wrote:I don't think we could expect them this year.
I expect at the end of this year, early next year some news about Thai, Jet Airways, Nationwide and ANA.
About Jet Airways we know they start service to Newark via Brussels in summer 07, possible codeshare with Brussels Airlines on the Mumbai route.
No news about ANA, Thai or Nationwide. My feeling is saying that we have to wait till 2008 when Brucargo West is build or extended. Cargo is a major factor to attract new long haul carriers.

Wait and see until the schedules are there : Bravo Air Congo and Axis International were also "confirmed", as was Jet Airways already two years ago...Atlantis wrote:About Jet Airways we know they start service to Newark via Brussels in summer 07, possible codeshare with Brussels Airlines on the Mumbai route.
Space enough at Brucargo I guess : since carpark 59 disappeared from apron 9, there are 9 cargo stands available. I never saw more than 5 planes parked at the same time... They even used Brucargo as parking location for impounded 9XR-SC more than a month !Atlantis wrote:My feeling is saying that we have to wait till 2008 when Brucargo West is build or extended. The main reason why they didn't came earlier to BRU was due to lack of aircrafts and the juridical problems in the USA.Robin_Bamps wrote:Wait and see until the schedules are there : Bravo Air Congo and Axis International were also "confirmed", as was Jet Airways already two years ago...Atlantis wrote:About Jet Airways we know they start service to Newark via Brussels in summer 07, possible codeshare with Brussels Airlines on the Mumbai route.

But indeed we have to wait until 9W announce the new summer schedule.
Re: ANA and BRU
If I remember correctly, Sabena's Japan flights were always full but had terrible yields and weren't even profitable at 100% LF (read it in the books about Sabena's demise I believe).snowflake wrote:BRU-NRT (and vs) is a profitable route due to high yields.
Not 100% sure though.
Re: Thai ? ANA ?
Nationwide just announced to fly more to London with their single B767. So, I think no chance that we see them at BRU.itami wrote:Any news in the meantime ? WANTED : direct flight between Belgium and Japan
Pressure from the Belgian side continues !Atlantis wrote:No news about ANA, Thai or Nationwide. My feeling is saying that we have to wait till 2008 when Brucargo West is build or extended. Cargo is a major factor to attract new long haul carriers.
Speech by Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt, on the occasion of the dinner in honour of Mr Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan on 11JAN2007 :
“I’m also convinced that the restauration of the direct air link between both our nations, as well for for passenger as for cargo flights, can give a new dimension to our economical and human relations. We have to continue our cooperation to reach that goal.”
