Farnborough Airshow 2006

Hello;

Last weekend me Ivan and Yannick went to Farnborough airshow . We departed friday noon with the train to Brussels South, where we took the Eurostar to London Waterloo, and there we took a local train to Farnborough, we stayed in 'the elephants Castle' bed and breakfast. Really nice B&B, there is a pub donwstairs, so if you don't like to go to sleep, you can have... :cheers: . So saturday went to the airshow, it was a ten minute walk, we where there already at 7:30 i think. First we did the static, and then we saw Tim (burner737).
The flying show started at 12:30 with the red arrows, then A340-600 and A380 . I was really inpressed from there slow fly by .
The best was the Mig-29 OVT, you must hear the sound, GREAT!!!
The weather wasn't qiute good , we have to take shelter for a few times, but,
anyway, when the evening fals the weather became bether, and sunday it was a cloudy day with a few open spots, but it didn't rain
Sunday we departed around 3pm and we where back in Kessel at 23:25.

The MiG-29 OVT's sound isn't different from the standard MiG-29, don't find much WOW about it, I mean, not more WOW than lets say some F-16 engine noise, second: I think they can do more with that thing in the display. Sure, he does a cobra and a double tumbling but no sharp turns or other short handling moves. And don't know how it was at Farnborough, but at Fairford, the display was flown VERY far.

I was there on the Thursday and the Typhoon display was conducted somewhere over Woking!

The Rules about flying low and close to the crowd at farnborough are very
strict ,the area close to the Airfield is very Heavily built up and the Airshow
is the only time aircraft fly over the north side of Farnborough.
Farnborough is a very Busy Biz airfield governed by stict Safety rules and limits on aircraft Size\weight and Noise. Before any pilot can fly
in the Display his aircraft display has to be passed by the Safety
committee any violation of the rules would ground the pilot. on the Saturday the display was Low level for most of the Afternoon due
to the proximity of thunderstorms The Temp control zone was cancelled
by LATCC to allow Civil flights to Weather Avoid . The Airspace above
EGLF if you look is very heavily used by flights to and from Europe
late afternoon the Airspace was handed back and displays were normal
