Armenian A320 crashed into the black sea
Moderator: Latest news team
There is a report that Airbus has telexed (July 17) all operators the following:
"THE AIRCRAFT WAS APPROACHING RUNWAY 06 AT SOCHI AIRPORT
(RUSSIA).
WHILE THE AIRCRAFT WAS IN LANDING CONFIGURATION AND STABILIZED ON GLIDE AND LOC, AND UPON ATC REQUEST DUE TO CLOUD BASE BELOW MINIMA, THE CREW STOPPED DESCENDING, TURNED RIGHT AND CLIMBED TO REACH 2000 FT SEA LVL (600 M).
WHILE THE AIRCRAFT WAS IN MANUAL FLIGHT WITH ATHR ENGAGED FLYING OUTBOUND FROM RWY 06 IN LANDING CONFIGURATION (FLAPS/SLATS FULL, GEAR DOWN) AT 165 KTS AND AT 1500 FT, THERE WERE SIGNIFICANT ROLL INPUTS AND NOSE-DOWN INPUTS, MOST PROBABLY DUE TO THE LOSS OF PITCH AND ROLL AWARENESS FROM THE CAPTAIN'S SIDE.
SUBSEQUENTLY THERE WAS INSUFFICIENT NOSE-UP INPUT IN RESPONSE TO EGPWS WARNING TO AVOID IMPACT.
FURTHER TO THE LAST PROGRESS MEETING WITH THE COMMISSION OF
INVESTIGATION AND WITH THE BEA, IT IS CONFIRMED THAT:
- THERE WAS NO AIRCRAFT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION,
- THE AIRCRAFT RESPONDED NORMALLY ACCORDING TO EITHER AUTOPILOT ORDERS OR PILOT MANUAL INPUTS
AT THIS STAGE AIRBUS HAS NO SPECIFIC RECOMMENDATIONS TO GIVE TO OPERATORS."
Now that this cat's out of the bag, the official accident report can't be far behind.

There is a rule called Decision Height where a pilot must have a clear visual of the runway, if he has not obtained a visual of the runway at that height he must go around or divert to another airport.
Possibly that rule was ignored! but that's pure speculation.

There are no strangers in the world, just friends we have yet to meet.
Investigators have found pilot error to be the contributing factor in the crash.

What is in a name?
What is in a name?
Did you notice the name of the investigator? What is in a name?
Her name is Anodina. That means harmless, innocuous... (anodin) Sorry Tatyana.
The badly translated report says: The [main] pilot did not ensure control of the plane as far as angle and altitude were concerned.
I wrote on JUL 12 already:
“After correcting the deviation the aircraft started descend in accordance with approach chart. At 22:10:45 p.m. the pilot reported wheels down and ready to approach, the controller answered the distance from the runway was ten km, cloud base 190 and visibility 4000 and gave permission for approach. However, in 30 seconds the controller informed the pilot that base of clouds became 100 m and instructed him to stop descend, turn right, execute a missed approach procedure, to climb to height 600 m and contact Radar controller.”
What can a pilot see under such conditions, I ask again.
Miss T, the question is, why did the [main] pilot not do what the controller told him to do. He was ten km from the runway with wheels down, this man was going to land, in miserable weather conditiond, whatever anybody would tell him, I suppose.
That was his mistake! That was not harmless, innocuous!

And I am not alone:
Armavia Disagrees with Inter-State Aviation Committee Conclusion on Causes of A-320 Crash
Mikhail Baghdasarov stated he disagreed with the conclusion of the Inter-State Aviation Committee: "the Inter-State Aviation Committee had probably made a political decision and Armenia has nothing to add to it."
Eh!
President of the National Aviation Association (NAA) of Armenia Dmitry Atbashyan told:
«I do not agree with the conclusion. No one from the air crew believes Grigor Grigoryan, having flied on various planes, would direct the liner into the sea. He could not be mistaken, his qualification as a pilot is rather high. It is laughable to say he lost the attitude position. No pilot believes the conclusion of the Inter-State Aviation Committee: it is counted for stupid passengers,»
He underscored, «Pilots are not suicides. Not worth a pin is a plane, which crashes resulting from a pilot's mistake. A-320 has no automatic pilot – it is an ignorant wording. There is an automatic system of steadiness, which are integrated in the control system. And no matter how much you turn it off, it will not turn off fully. It keeps working irrespective of the pilot's wish,» the NAA President said.
Is it a russian cover up?
«The regulations say that flights are prohibited in dangerous meteorological conditions. 6 types are considered dangerous. I will mention only two, present on that day: storm rainfall and wind shear. There was no equipment at Sochi airport to determine the availability of dangerous meteorological phenomena at the trajectory of approach operation. An airport does not have the right to receive Airbus liners without having corresponding devices. Those, who allowed flights of those planes to Sochi, should be responsible for the crash of the Armenian liner,» Atbashyan said.
Why, should it?
LZ-readers will have noticed I mentioned weeks ago that Sochi is candidate for hosting the Winter Olympic games.
Admitting any error their side would be damaging the image of Sochi.
Lying for good sake, then?

The reputation of ICA...
'Iravunk' newspaper reports that the investigations of the catastrophes of summer 2006 once again proved that the IAC has never been and never could be an independent investigation institution.
Read how the ICA* for Certification of each Boeing airplane receives $3 million and how the whole sum does not reach the addressee.....
*International Aviation Committee.
This committee was granted on '94, in Russia, the authority of licensing all types of airplanes, airports and aviation equipment, as well as investigating causes of air catastrophes, is administrated by Ms. Anodina -what's in a name?-.
This Committee was also trying to accuse the pilots of the A-310 crash in Irkutsk.
Note also that of 'Transaero' company, 45% of the shares belong to Ms. Anodina's family.
Do I smell something burning?

The cause of this crash was according the IAC ; (summary):
No doubt more news will come up in the next days.
Yesterday, 19/10/06 a surprising news conference by a former pilot of the Armenian Airlines Vladimir Pogosyan :The investigation committee concluded that the captain did not monitor the roll and pitch attitudes of the airplane during the climbing right turn. Also the co-pilot did not monitor the flight parameters during this phase. The subsequent actions of the crew as a result of GPWS warnings, were uncoordinated and insufficient for recovery.
There was already denial from Armavia:...........
According to him, the plane in good order could fall into the sea swiftly, for just five seconds, only after an explosion.
..............
Four relatives of the crash victims, Russian citizens, say their relatives called them a few seconds before the crash and said there was a shootout onboard. Besides, belongings with holes from bullets were found in the water on the spot,” he said asking why such experienced pilots, who were the crew of the crashed A320, being aware of the risk of landing in Adler Airport, which is not equipped for bad weather conditions, nevertheless made such an attempt.
.........
The news was in several Russian publications.......Armavia Armenian Airlines has no information on a shootout allegedly taken place on board of the Airbus A320 flying from Yerevan to Sochi on May 3, 2006 and resulting in its crash near Sochi coast. The announcement is made by spokeswoman for the airlines Jasmen Vilyan while she was commenting on a statement by former pilot of the airlines Vladimir Pogosyan, who claimed that the A320 crashed in a result of a showdown onboard.
No doubt more news will come up in the next days.
