Already 4 are delivered (PH-AOA/B/C/D).

PH-AOE is planned for delivery in August, PH-AOF in December.

If everything goes like this, KLM will have 6 of them at the end of 2006.

Regards, Robin Bamps.

Will they replace all the 767? I have the impression that they will only replace part of them.

Have they not replaced the 767 with a mix of A330's and B777's?

The A330 is an amazing aircraft and the KLM layout and IFE in the machine is immense!

The 777 where to replace the MD-11 I think.

The 767's are all due to leave the fleet. Five of them are still active and due to leave the fleet between January and April next year (2007).

The MD-11's are due to stay until 2012.

It might not be a bad ide to sell some of the MD11 now, when cargo carriers needs them. But I suppose they are making lots os money by flying them right now!

Yeah but they are becoming a bit unreliable (the M11's). My brother was on one from AMS to Lima two months ago that blew an engine sometime after t/o from Bonaire and had to land in Curacao. Took them three days to fix.....apparently not an isolated incident either.

The interiors of these aircraft are pretty poor also though I understand they are being updated....

KLM started a fleet renewal progran in 2002. The 743 and 763 will be peplaced by 772ER and A333. Also two 743F are replaced by 3 744ERF, and a fourth is on order for the start of 2007. These new aircraft are more quiet then it's predecessors. Also, the 744 and MD11 will get a PTV system.

There is an English version up there somewhere. What is interesting is that it says the M11s and B747s are getting the improvements already in the A330 and B777. I thought previously KLM said the business class would get new PTVs but there would only be new LCD screens throughout the cabin in Economy. Has this changed? I sincerely hope so!

The MD-11 is not unreliable.
I flew them several times and never had any delay, sometimes things like this can happen.
The MD-11 will stay with us until 2012.

Yep i have never been delayed on them either but I know quite a few people at work that have and almost go to the lengths of finding out whether it is a MD11 on the route before booking. If it is they will go someone else (unless its an NWA DC10 - why are they not banned in EUrope yet for emmissions and noise reasons......). This is partly down to having been delayed so often and partly because they are so tatty inside - in economy anyway. Biz is fine.
