Looking to buy the Canon EOS 350d and 70-300 mm sigma lens

Hello everybody,

I' ve got a problem. Soon I am up to buy a new camera. The canon eos 350d and probably the 70-300 mm lens of sigma ,

You see that I'm not shure of the lens. I heard from some other spotters in my friend area that it's a good lens , but is for example the 28-300 mm or the 75-300 mm canon better.

NOTICE that the camera and the lens will be used most of the time here IN BRUSSELS-EBBR--BRU !!

By the way , if I want to go for a cheaper cam is the nikon d50 a good option or not in (vergelijking (don't know the English word

) of the eos 350d ?

An other option you forget is the new one from Sony with the Minolta technology. It will be sold at a price of about 850 euros I heard, and is a camera with IS on board.
Perhaps this option is worth being considered too. Cam is to appear in shops in a few months.

If you're talking about the Canon 28-300 and you've got money enough, go for it. If you are talking about a Sigma or Tamron 28-300 ... Stay away from those lenses !

I sold my 28-300 and bought a Canon 75-300 and the difference in image quality is very noticable !

I'd say a Canon 350D + Canon 75-300 would be a sweet combo to start with !

I agree with Andries : I also had a Sigma 28-300 (in combination with the Canon EF 75-300mm IS USM though),
but also sold my Sigma because I wasn't satisfied. I bought a Canon EF 28-105mm USM II instead which I now use in combination with the Canon EF 75-300mm IS USM on my EOS 300D and I have to say that I'm very satisfied !

I'm very happy with the combination of the 350d with the Sigma 70-300 APO Macro , on lot's of site's, forums ect ,this objective mostly comes out of the best .

is just a great combo between the cam and obj .

if you can afford you to buy the Canon 28-300 IS USM you are a step beyond .
there is nothing that beats the wite glass for canon but it's expensive for 2200 euro

in my opinion canon is the winner in this case ,

but if there is a discusion starting out this way we now how it will end , someguys like nikon , but about 80% likes and owns canon.

I would go for the canon as you said , but I'm a bit bored about his price !! The nikon D50 is much cheaper , but in photos I saw , I think the D50 shows a bit grainy or blurry photos ? Am I right ?

Canon 350d pictures look more charper or is it the photographer that's not familiar enough with the camera usage, ISO and stuff...

a couple of mine

there are some shots from 2004 with my nikon that i have sold because i was not happy with the quality .
Nikon d50 uses ISO 200 wich will result in more grain than canon.

Both pics are taken with the 28-300 IS USM , but i normaly take my shots with a sigma 70-300 APO MACRO .
It was a long and hot day and my dad was sleeping in the car so i had the opportunity to borrow it

make sure you check the pricing in germany...
there are a few very good stores just over the border with very good service
(there is at least 1 Dutch speaking just past Aachen)

and the BTW is only 16% !

worth the small trip ....

so very correct !

I ordered my equipement at Topfoto (http://www.topfoto.de) and picked it up there. I asked the owner of the shop to charge the batteries of the camera so I could go spotting that same day and he did that. I picked upo my gear and continued on to CGN (Köln). By buying my equipment in Germany, I saved about 750€ compared to average prices in Belgian stores, so it's definetly worth the trip !

You may consider Canon 70-200 f4 L. Very good lens. Sharp, light, fast AF L build quality and the price is acceptable.

It depends on the things you want to take pictures with .
On some airfields you don't have enough mm with only 200.
If i would make the choice again with a rather low butcget i would go for the sigma 70-300 APO MACRO

I'd do the same thing for the Canon EF 75-300 III USM !

Dear Nick,

You choose for the Canon EOS 350D body...that's fine...I hope your hands are not too big?

Rather a small (but a very good price/quality) body!.

Can you tell us your budget (+/-) for the lens you want to buy?
Please note that everything is also a bit personal linked.
Canon has good lenses. Sigma also (they "cooperate" together so...).
Everybody (don't take it too serious) will prefer his/her lenses due to his/her hapiness, experience etc.
For me, the 75-300 is a good lens to start with. Ok it has CA (Chromatic Aberration, well spelled?), ok its autofocus is not of the quickest, ok its not weather sealed. But like for example in aviation...you get what you have payed for. (not all the times but ok those are exceptions)
Off course one must keep in mind that there are some very good post image editors with "less good equippment" but with very good image processing skills. (which can make the difference off course in the Digital Photography World)

For me Canon (body) + Canon (lens, teleconvertor...) is still my favourite choice.
The L lenses of Canon are thé elite in the world of photography. (not all of them) But as fellow spotter Andries already said, its not made for your budget (we presume that). You have cheaper L lenses. For me (personal) an L lens like the 28-300 is too expensive. For that price you have an L 70-200 and L 100-400...

Please tell us your budget for the lens in EUR, Nick, I think we can help you more then.
