Four crewmen missing after Israeli missile ship was struck by anti-air rockets from the shore while bombarding Beirut airport Friday. Two rockets were fired, one missed, the second hit the vessel’s helicopter landing pad. The ship carries a crew of 61 plus 10 helicopter personnel.
The schip is a Sa'ar 5 Corvette (Israel has three).
This was the bastard firing rockets into the airport.

Men of duty:
Zaiter, 57, a communications specialist for Lebanon's national airline, runs the Beirut airport information desk, may be the most dangerous place in the city.
When they're not answering calls, they amuse themselves with stories and jokes - anything to keep their minds off the bombing.
Sometimes, the calls are fodder for jokes.
"A man called after the first attack and said, 'I have six bottles of whiskey. Can I bring them with me on my flight?'" recalled Zaiter, laughing. "The airport's closed, and he's worried about his whiskey!"

Military sources reveal that the warship was struck from Beirut by an Iran-made C-802 shore-to-sea missile of the Silkworm family. Weighing 715 kilos, with a range of 120km, the missile is armed with a strong anti-jamming capability, which lends it a 98% success rate in escaping interception.
By friday evening,14 july, the Israeli Airforce flew over 1000 sorties.

According to a South Korean government source, North Korea helps Iran improve the accuracy of the target identification system of its C801 and C802 naval cruise missiles.
The Iranian Navy hopes to improve its coastal defense and anti-ship capability with the joint program. Iran received about half of the 150, 80-mile-range C802s ordered from China before the supply was frozen in 1997. In the early 1990s, Iran purchased the 30-mile-range C801 missile from China. The C802 closely resembles France's Exocet missile, but the French manufacturer, Aerospatiale, denies any technology exchange took place.
China has promised the United States several times to stop deliveries of the C802 to Iran, but US intelligence reports last year documented deliveries by China far in excess of what has publicly been reported. The C802s were assembled in Iran under a co-producing agreement signed with Communist China, and use a sophisticated motor supplied by a French manufacturer.
An air-launched anti-ship missile (ASM) identified as the "Fajr-e Darya," a locally assembled version of the Chinese C802 ASM, has been successfully tested.
A report claims that Iran had acquired about 125 C802 cruise missiles from China in the mid-1990s
(((NOOR))) NOOR antiship missile with shore to sea and ship to ship launch capabilities.
(((KOSAR))) KOSAR antiship missile with shore to sea and fast-boat to sea launch capabilities.
goto Iran Defence
Note: it looks they have much more than this specimen overthere, and it looks Israel has only 2 such ships left.

Please keep rubbish from organisations that describe Israelis as "Zionists" from this website. Or else, move to Iran.beaucaire wrote:http://www.washington-report.org/html/newsitem_s.htm

The Washington Report is published by the American Educational Trust (AET), a non-profit foundation incorporated in Washington, DC by retired U.S. foreign service officers to provide the American public with balanced and accurate information concerning US relations with Middle Eastern states.Ozzie1969 wrote:Please keep rubbish from organisations that describe Israelis as "Zionists" from this website. The Washington Report on Middle East Affairs does not take partisan domestic political positions. As a solution to the Palestinian-Israeli dispute, it endorses U.N. Security Council Resolution 242´s land-for-peace formula, supported by seven successive U.S. presidents.
The American Educational Trust was founded in Washington, DC in January, 1982. Its founding chairman was Edward Firth Henderson, a British Army Officer during World War II who served in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
All the truth can not be on one side. They say clearly to provide the American public with balanced and accurate information ....
If you're not American, you're not concerned with what they say...
And if it does not concern (military) aviation and /or aeronautical matters, it does not concern this forum, that's what I think...
As to my contribution, the 802 is not a ballistic device, it has its own engine, so it flies, can change direction and speed, like a drone it is aeronautical.
Elcob contribution described a corvette where the helicopter landing pad was hit...
Only you lost control in your 15/07 05:38 contribution.... don't do that again, don't provoke..

So, this organisation is neutral, is that what I'm supposed to believe? Strange that their rhetoric and the books they are selling sound like the rubbish which mongrels like Ahmadinejad regularly spout. Oh sure, he's neutral too, I guess.SN30952 wrote:The Washington Report is published by the American Educational Trust (AET), a non-profit foundation incorporated in Washington, DC by retired U.S. foreign service officers to provide the American public with balanced and accurate information concerning US relations with Middle Eastern states.Ozzie1969 wrote:Please keep rubbish from organisations that describe Israelis as "Zionists" from this website. I agree with ozzie1969. I've just done some google-searches, and this guy, Richard H. Curtiss, earns his living from anti-Israel actions. He even wants a boycott of Estee Lauder because she is an Israeli citizen.

The same source continues: However, as it initiates attacks against civilians in Israel and ideologically supports such attacks by other organizations, such as Islamic Jihad and Hamas, many governments, including the United States, have designated it a terrorist organization.
For exactly the same reason (attacks against civilians) one can call the state of Israel a terrorist one since 1947 supported by the biggest terrorist state in the world: the USA (remember their illegal war in Iraq)....and so on and so on.... but:
Look,
We've all been wronged.
We've all had loved ones ripped from our lives.
We'd all like to live wherever we want to.
We all want to live without worrying about being bombed.
We all have a loved one who has endured genocide, racism or oppression.
We all believe we are right.
Those of us who believe that our being right gives us permission to sacrifice another person's child are evil.
End of story. Don't care where you live, where you worship, what happened to your people a 100 years ago. Don't care. I don't have any interest in your grievances.
We all have choices in life. We can educate, or promote ignorance. Reach out, or build walls. Live together or annihilate. Accept humility or prove our might. Be decent or be ugly.
~Anyone who tells you they have no choice but to drop a bomb is lying to you.
~Anyone who tells you god wants them to have your home is lying to you.
~Anyone who tells you they are incapable of living with someone of a certain race or religion is lying to you.
~Anyone who tells you that the only path to peace is war is lying to you.
