that put themselves in harms way to protect our freedoms.

So many CH47 losses. Now there is talk of deployment of an active duty squadron of V-22 Osprey to Iraq.

RUSSIANS' MISSILE HIT OUR LYNX
THE British helicopter shot down by Iraqi terrorists in Basra was hit with a Russian-made heat-seeking missile, say military experts.

A team investigating last weekend's tragedy, in which five service personnel died, believes an SA 14 Strela rocket was used, not a rocket-propelled grenade as first thought.

The shoulder-held SA 14 launcher has been upgraded recently to help it deceive a helicopter's defence systems.

The war will be over the day that the resistance fighters in occupied Iraq get modern SAM's. But the manufacturers of these rockets are under great pressure not to supply. (not only Russian but chinese, brazilian, pakistani, indian, south-african as well)
A major victory for the invaders was when they were handed over the 800 Roland SAM systems by bribing a Iraqi general.
The occupation army relies completely on its eyes in the skies. No helicopter pilot will dare to fly low anymore. See the Stinger story in Afghanistan against the russians.

The British report says the Lynx was hit by a heat seeking missile, probaly a upgraded SAM Strela-14.
There are other reports saying resistance-groups in Iraq recieved hundreds Iranien-made SAM's.

I've read an interesting fact concerning the US helicopters in Irak and Afghanistan. Usually AH64 et CH47 fly 150 hours PA and when deployed they fly 150 hours per month. Amazing !

So far, no confirmation of this incidents , but they are also mentioned in the dispatches of Dahr Jamail, an American journalist.
According to the Arabic al-Sharqiyah Television channel, on July 6th :
"Gunmen shot down two US Apaches in al-Zur village, north of
al-Miqdadiyah in Diyala Governorate, northeast of Baghdad. Security

Link to picture of a wrecked Chinook.

Helicopter 153389 rests at Al Asad, Iraq, after being recovered from a hard landing. The aircraft was repairable after the landing until the Army volunteered to recover it. During recovery, the convoy drove under a bridge with a low clearance resulting in the aircraft smashing into the bridge.

Except that is not a CH-47 Chinook but a CH-46 Sea Knight:oops:. Apparently this specific helicopter is some kind of historically significant craft, it is being restored by volunteer (not sure whether to flying condition) and is owend by the National Museum of the Marine Corps.

Yep , I saw it later that it was a Sea Knight ( not a Sea King :) like you wrote earthman, typo ? )instead of a Chinook.

Thanks for the link, nice to see its under restoration.

In an overnight raid on a hide-out in southern Afghanistan, the US military said today the US-led force destroyed a weapons cache, although as they left the area a malfunctioning helicopter was damaged “beyond repair” in an emergency landing and destroyed by a coalition airstrike. No coalition or Afghan forces were hurt.
