luggage problems in Copenhagen.

Post by BRU-CPH »

Last Sunday (2nd of July 2006) I was heading back with SN from CPH to BRU. Apparently there was a strike of the luggage handling. Check-in was very slow as the luggage belt was running very irregularly. So it took us 1 hour to check in. As I noticed there was a problem with the baggage handling, I offered to take my bag as hand luggage, but that was refused (to large and to heavy).
The crew decide to wait for 1,5 hours for the luggage but finally took off without luggage, promising the luggage would be delivered next day (Monday). Until this moment (Tuesday 9:30 am) no news about the luggage, with FlightCare being not reachable yesterday after 4:00pm.

At arrival, we were told by FlightCare that we would pick up our luggage by ourselves at the airport, as this was a strike, so SN or FlightCare were not to blame.

Does anyone has more information of this strike in CPH?
Do we have right for any compensation?
Is this normal that we have to pick up our luggage at the airport?

Thanks for your replies!

Did the airline not handle the baggage itself, if the agency it employed was on strike.

 And if it was on strike, did the airline not make alternative arrangements. :?:

I guess in such cases, yes the airline is primarily responsible for the ticket cost does include handling of baggage.
Aum Sweet Aum.

Sometimes it takes one week to be delivered when it comes from another continent. I think the best for you is to wait one week, and then if you have not received them, contact SN.

You may obtain compensation from SN with a price per kg if they are lost.
You may obtain compensation from your credit card organism if they are lost (Eurocard Mastercard, Visa, American Express...) but only if you have paid your ticket with one of those cards. Some premium cards also offer compensation for both delay and loss.

You can just claim to one of those not both. If anyone has other ideas, they are welcomed.

Most of the completely lost luggage are due to the lack of name. If you put your name inside and outside, it won't take long. Once installed the RFID will decrease the number of lost baggages but it will take a lot of time before all airlines and airports use it.

In the worst case, they will blame each other (airline, bagage handling companies in each airport) and it takes months to resolve. A close friend of mine arrived in Beijing without his luggage and apparently the Chinese and Rest of the world baggage barcode systems are different. Firstly he was forced to buy clothes in Beijing, now he has a great counterfeited garde robe LOL. He had to wait one year and he had to join a "consumer union" to get 400€ from Air France for a weight limit baggage.

Hi,

Let us make it simple, because it is.

There were problems with a baggage system on monday which has fallen down completely. Result: 8000 bagages left behind in CPH.
On sunday, I don't know anything about a strike...
Our SAS flights didn't have many problems sunday...
Yesterday, however, it was a "disaster"...

If you did not make a file at Flightcare in Brussels within the (normally) 5 days there will be no delivery of your bagage, and no compensation.

Best regards,

Thanks for your reactions.

I can assure you there were problems Sunday evening, as well as with SK as with other airlines, all had very long waiting rows at check-in.
At least in terminal 2, the luggage belt was hardly moving.
Most of non-SK flights also had long delays (0.5 up to 2 hours).

Nevertheless, I got my luggage back yesterday evening.
