April 1988 and passengers on a short island hop from Hilo to Honolulu are terrified when the roof and walls of their cabin rips off at 24,000ft. Blasted by 500kph winds and choking on frigid air containing little oxygen, everybody on board appears doomed but miraculously only one person dies.

Twelve minutes after JAL flight 123 takes off from Tokyo's Haneda Airport in August 1985, a thunderous bang takes out the steering system. This is the single worst accident in aviation history.

--Helicopter Down--
In January 1995 a helicopter carrying 16 oil workers set off for a North Sea drilling rig shortly before a ferocious storm. Struck by lightning, the stricken helicopter plunged into the sea. Miraculously, all of the passengers managed to scramble onto an emergency raft – but adrift in a 6-metre swell with the dinghy overloaded, punctured and partly deflated, all hope seemed lost. Follow the team's fight for survival.

--African Hijack--
In 1996 three axe-wielding men hijack an Ethiopian plane ordering the pilot to head for Australia. The pilot tricks them by flying along the African coast but runs out of fuel. Then the hijackers crash the plane into a crowded beach. Over 120 people died and the survivors share their harrowing memories.

is the UA232 crash the DC10 crash where they changed the heading with asymmetric thrust ?

yes thats the one (Scioux City episode).

There was no pressure on any of the three hydrolic systems (chance that this happens is 1 on a million!!!) ==> no flaps, no ailerons, no rudder, no nothing. So they tried changing the heading by applying assymetric thrust on the 2 remaining wing-engines (tail engine was exploded). Unfortunately this didn't work as good as they wanted to.

This one was aired friday, I was very impressed. It's a very interesting story and the creators of Air Crash Investigation again did a very good job on this episode.

Thanks for the schedule Matthias. I haven't missed almost any of them.
Of course with the typical American flavor and 'need for 'drama', but very interesting indeed and highly recommended.
Sometimes a pity that they repeated so many times, but on the other hand that's also an advantage so that as much people as possible have the opportunity to watch them....
