2. Aircrash Investigation:
HORROR AND HEROISM AT 33,000 FEET
National Geographic Channel premieres the brand new third season of Air Crash Investigation, examining 10 of recent history's most shocking air disasters to reveal the gripping human stories behind each tragedy. Through real life footage, dramatic re-enactments and eyewitness accounts, get into the cabins of routine flights that turned into stomach churning nightmares.
Each episode captures these critical moments in detail, intertwining the incredible recreations with compelling analysis. In-depth examinations of the accidents' causes cover everything from mechanical failures to suicidal pilots and negligent captains to terrorist hijackers. Many of the investigations conclude by profiling the resulting changes in the airline industry's practices, offering hope that even the most devastating mistakes can lead to the most astonishing revolutions in air travel safety.

--Hanging By A Thread--
April 1988 and passengers on a short island hop from Hilo to Honolulu are terrified when the roof and walls of their cabin rips off at 24,000ft. Blasted by 500kph winds and choking on frigid air containing little oxygen, everybody on board appears doomed but miraculously only one person dies.

13 februari, 1.00
24 februari, 23.00
25 februari, 2.00
25 februari, 17.00
3 maart, 16.00
--Attack Over Baghdad--
In November 2003, terrorists fire a surface-to-air missile at a DHL plane on a routine mail drop to Baghdad. The left wing is engulfed in flames and the steering system completely destroyed. Remarkably, the terrified pilots manage to land the stricken plane, a feat never achieved before. This unprecedented success was captured on film by a nearby US military helicopter.
schedule:

20 februari, 1.00
--Out Of Control--
Twelve minutes after JAL flight 123 takes off from Tokyo's Haneda Airport in August 1985, a thunderous bang takes out the steering system. The pilots struggle with the plane for 30 minutes before it crashes. The rescue team takes 14 hours to reach the wreckage resulting in only four of 524 passengers surviving. This is the single worst accident in aviation history.
schedule:
26 februari, 22.00
27 februari, 1.00
--Bomb On Board--
On December 11, 1994, an international terrorist sneaks bomb ingredients past airport security and assembles them inside the bathroom of PAL flight 434. He calculates to make sure that his seat lies directly over the plane's fuel tank, and plants the bomb under his seat before disembarking at a stopover in the Philippines.
schedule:
5 maart, 22.00
6 maart, 1.00
--Suicide Attack--
On April 7, 1994, FedEx flight 705 is just finishing its climb out of Memphis, U.S. when an off-duty FedEx flight engineer suddenly storms the cockpit. Bashing in the crew members' skulls with a hammer and armed with a spear gun, the crazed attacker seems intent on killing the crew and taking over the plane.
schedule:
12 maart, 22.00
13 maart, 1.00
--Mistaken Identity--
The USS Vincennes is a billion-dollar cruiser, powerfully equipped with an Aegis weapons system capable of tracking over 100 targets at a time. But when an unidentified aircraft approaches the vessel on July 3, 1988, in the midst of a raging sea battle off the Iranian coast, Aegis operators mistake the harmless commercial flight for an enemy F-14 fighter jet.

--Egypt Air 990--
October 31, 1999- The night sky is calm when the captain leaves his co-pilot in command of the Boeing 767 during a bathroom break on the long flight from New York to Cairo. The co-pilot is alone in the cockpit as the plane suddenly begins to dive so fast that it creates weightlessness within the passenger's cabin.
schedule:
26 maart, 22.00
27 maart, 1.00
--Kid in the Cockpit--
In March 1994, an elite captain on an Aeroflot flight from Moscow to Hong Kong allows his young son a few minutes in the pilot's seat. His son turns the steering column and sets off a chain of events that ends in a corkscrew dive into the Siberian wilderness with the loss of 75 lives. The haunting cockpit voice recordings tell the whole terrible story.
schedule:

--Helicopter Down--
In January 1995 a helicopter carrying 16 oil workers set off for a North Sea drilling rig shortly before a ferocious storm. Struck by lightning, the stricken helicopter plunged into the sea. Follow the team's fight for survival.

yes thats the one (Scioux City episode).
There was no pressure on any of the three hydrolic systems (chance that this happens is 1 on a million!!!) ==> no flaps, no ailerons, no rudder, no nothing. So they tried changing the heading by applying assymetric thrust on the 2 remaining wing-engines (tail engine was exploded). Unfortunately this didn't work as good as they wanted to.

This one was aired friday, I was very impressed. It's a very interesting story and the creators of Air Crash Investigation again did a very good job on this episode.
Kind regards,
Sebastian

Thanks for the schedule Matthias. I haven't missed almost any of them.
Of course with the typical American flavor and 'need for 'drama', but very interesting indeed and highly recommended.
Sometimes a pity that they repeated so many times, but on the other hand that's also an advantage so that as much people as possible have the opportunity to watch them....
