Smartwings: what's happening???

Post by henkjan99 »

Smartwings didn't fly today (and maybe earlier too) and doesn't fly tomorrow from Amsterdam to Prague. What's happening with Smartwings? I want to book a flight to Prague, but if they cancel or if they are going bankrupt or something I don't wanna book (of course...)!

Do you have more information???

Smartwings cancelled all flights from Brussels to Prague between 10 July and the end of august !!

GSA for the Netherlands and Belgium is "Flitereps": www.flitereps.com

I think that Smartwings is not doing well at the moment. For the time being I think that they don't want to declare that they are loosing market battle with SkyEurope.

And what will be better then? SkyEurope or SmartWings? What are the differences?

Still a bit strange, because Smartwings is much cheaper than SkyEurope...

There's no information on their websites as well. Some international websites of Smartwings offer you tickets for (example) February 2006!!! So, no updates on their websites either!!!

Accoring to Prague Airport web-site Smartwings have had a single flight today (to Paris). All other flights which should be fliying today accoring to their flight timetable were not mentioned at all in on-line timetable of PRG APT.

I don't think that Smartwings is cheaper then SkyEurope. I don't know if they are charging other prices in Netherlands then in Czech republic, but here in Czech republic I tried some flight connections to compare and almost everytime I got the cheaper flight at SkyEurope. On the other side SkyEurope has really much stronger advertisment campaign in Prague at the moment.

Example of costs:

SmartWings:
11.07.2006 QS0027 1273.63 CZK 09:20 Amsterdam 10:50 Prague
12.07.2006 QS0027 1273.63 CZK 09:20 Amsterdam 10:50 Prague
13.07.2006 QS0027 1415.15 CZK 12:55 Amsterdam 14:25 Prague
14.07.2006 QS0027 1415.15 CZK 12:55 Amsterdam 14:25 Prague
16.07.2006 QS0027 1273.63 CZK 20:15 Amsterdam 21:45 Prague
17.07.2006 QS0027 1273.63 CZK 09:20 Amsterdam 10:50 Prague

Sky Europe:
st, 12. VII. 2006 2611 Amsterdam - Schiphol > Praha 9:30 11:00 CZK 599,00 Dospělý
čt, 13. VII. 2006 2611 Amsterdam - Schiphol > Praha 9:30 11:00 CZK 599,00 Dospělý
pá, 14. VII. 2006 2611 Amsterdam - Schiphol > Praha 9:30 11:00 CZK 1 399,00 Dospělý
so, 15. VII. 2006 2611 Amsterdam - Schiphol > Praha 9:30 11:00 CZK 599,00 Dospělý
ne, 16. VII. 2006 2611 Amsterdam - Schiphol > Praha 16:05 17:35 CZK 1 699,00 Dospělý

A couple of Czech friends of mine confirmed that Smartwings is not too reliable as it often cancels flights

They do prefer Sky Europe to Smartwings - they recently flew Prague to Barcelona on Sky as it was cheaper

Thanks a lot! Too bad for Smartwings that they cancel a lot of flights... Hopefully SkyEurope doesn't! :P

My mother tried to fly with Sky Europe two times, and both times the flight got cancelled. The second time the whole route got cancelled, in fact. (This was a different route than the one from the first cancelled flight, but that route was eventually cancelled as well).

According to Smartwings, true or not - I don't know, they will cancel the flights till August because till that period most of the European ministers are on holiday. From September on the bookings are doing quite well, Smartwings says.

What on earth do the holidays of ministers have to do with airline schedules?

Humour on

I did not know SmartWings was a VIP-carrier, in my opinion SmartWings was a low-cost...

Humour off

Maybe the same reason as Malmö Aviation?

I think this is very clear a no-reason.
Rumours go indeed that they are in a bad financial shape... I think the consolidation phase has clearly begon in the low-cost carrier market, as it does at a given time in any industry
