The LCC has also requested 7000 slots for the winter season.
What does it mean 7000 slot? How many daily flights?

Which is the website of the new LCC?

When will start the booking of flights?

There is still no name for the new LCC.
The would like to start in october 2007.

So for the moment no site.

About the slots I don't know.

But I think this doesn't mean that they will use all the slots.

Suppose the winter season account for 100 days...than that means 70 slots per day! That's an awefull lot to fill with merely 3 birds.

Estimation of needs with fleet of 3 aircraft:

3 aircraft x 8 slots per day (max.) x 100 days = 2400 slots.

They must be planning other additions to their fleet than, and even considerably more than the two remaining to come to the earlier stated fleet of 4 320's.

Catair won't be the name :!:

The name will be one of these 3 names: Air Mediterráneo, Mediterránea Airlines y Mediterráneo Airlines.

CATAIR OR THE LOW-COST FROM IBERIA

Post by catair »

I have read here that Catair does not sound so good as Air Mediterraneo or something like that.
I just wanted to say that for me at least it sounds very cool.
In fact in 1969 a French charter company began to fly with this name

Image

and if you go to google you can see more the planes.
I do not know which will be the final name of the low-cost of Iberia and I do not suppose they will choose at all the name of Catair but I like it because it sounds very very different to the names of other low-costs such as Ryanair and Easyjet.
It is an international name as it is in English (CAT plus AIR both lovely words), and it could even be pronounced in French as a hommage to the 70's French carrier. (it also could have a retro look ...)

Besides the headquarters are going to be in Barcelona where Catalan is spoken and remember also that .cat is too the first domain about a language and a culture.

And being related to Iberia (the name of the peninsula where Spain and Portugal are situated) it won't be crazy that the new name is also a geographical one, related to a part of Iberia.

As a joke I also could say that CAT could stand for Corona of Aragon Territorry so that it will cover an historic part of Iberia:
(with cities such as Perpignan, Girona, Barcelona, Reus, Zaragoza, Valencia, Eivissa (Ibiza), Alacant (Alicante), Majorca and Menorca.

And it resembles the word catar related to the South of France. Catair has an air of something old and
if you have ever been in the old gothic part of any old European city maybe you would appreciate that kind of air.

It has even too an exotic air as it resembles Qatar from Qatar airlines.

The pronunciation in Catalan and Spanish it also sounds good.

I find quite original to have a low-cost from a Spanish company, Iberia,
written in English, pronounced in French (after all in France they also have a Catalan region with Perpignan as capital) and with a name related to a culture, the Catalan, that is a symbol of survival against all odds worldwide ( Not by chance it is the first culture in the planet that has got its own domain: .cat)

Catair sounds ancient and mediterranean to me ...

The colours of Catair on their Caravelle have a strange resemblance with those of Sabena on the same plane. Could it be that Catair bought a Sabena Caravelle?

the colour ...

Post by catair »

About the colour of the plane I must say that I have seen other photos from other Catair (the French carrier I mean) and the blue was quite different and more similar to the blue in RGB (Html code).

But I love the blue in that photo and I wish that new Catair, the low-cost from Iberia (by the way its site maybe www.clickair.com instead of www.catair.com because but the commercial name is still undecided it seems...)
would choose that colour and the retro look from the original French carrier
(or it could choose the yellow and black from the Barcelona taxis or
even the colours of FCBarcelona if the president of this club, Joan Laporta,
becomes president of the low-cost ...)

Why I think it would be clickair.com the new name

Post by catair »

Some weeks ago I read in some Spanish newspapers that the name could be clickair.
Catair is the name of the holding but the commercial name still has to be chosen.

Nevertheless if you look at the Whois from www.clickair.com,
www.clickair.es , www.clickair.eu you will see that they were
registered at the end of 2005 and to the name of
Catair Lineas Aereas.

I suppose that they still could have a change of mind and choose another
name but I suppose that clickair is on the top.

It is a name that relates completely to Internet but a simple point
also relates to the internet as in THE.CAT (written as www.the.cat does not
look so nice, does it?) and to me at least seems more original
and being a company with headquarters in a place (old Barcelona) where the .cat ( or the.cat ...) is the first domain specifically for a culture, in this case
the Catalan culture) it would be anidea to reflect on.

And besides it would have other possibilities like

FLY.THE.CAT

AIR.THE.CAT

and so on.

also possible

Post by catair »

Yes. It is also possible that it could be one of those names.

I think there were 6 names registered similar to those you wrote and 3 had been accepted.

But clickair is also in the air ...

By the way I have realised that altair is a very nice star in constellation aquila so that catair it would also have a cosmic aspect in some way.

In order to choose the name I suppose the five parts have to meet so who
knows who will be the last and final choice.

Catair is the name that you can read in all newspapers but it is also made quite clear that is just the name of the holding.

the look

Post by catair »

The look of the new company low-cost, Catair by now ...,
is indeed a mystery at least to me.

Here in Barcelona we have the feeling we are known elsewhere for Gaudi
architecture and for design (is it true though?...) so that
I think that it would be a good idea to give to it a very cool look.

After all a lot of tourists come to the west Mediterranean coast so if it
chooses an incredible magnetic look it could benefit a lot.

Nevertheless the climate here is a bit hostile to this new company.

Thanks to Catair I have learned how the things go in the journalism in my country.

I have realised that they pay a lot of attention to businessman.

In the newspapers it seems a tragedy because they say that Barcelona
will lose businessman because they won't come with a low-cost company
(Iberia is going to decrease flights within the peninsula in favour of flights
from the low-cost).

Well that seems to be a very snobby and out of times idea!

China is each day reminding us that they can do the things in a cheaper way.

SO THAT I THINK THAT IS IS TIME WE WAKE UP!!!!!!

Companies should be VERY HAPPY that instead of paying a lot of money
for travelling they can spend less thanks to the low-costs.

Besides I think it would be very healthy for the businessman to mix
with the "low-cost" classes because I have the suspicion that most
of the business sell things to the "low-cost classes" so that a little mix
with these low-cost people could help them improve their sells if not
the transportation budget of their company.

Nevertheless for those who cannot mix with low-cost classes I would
recommend that they ask Iberia how much would they have to pay in
order to be able to fly as before. And maybe they could reach some
agreement.

But I find totally logical that Iberia will get rid of flights
that do not give any profit at all!

Well I deviated a bit from the original theme ....

About the look I already commented that I would love the planes to be painted like the taxis in Barcelona (black and yellow)

I think that another possibility - that I'm not sure I like much but nevertheless I just thought ... - would be that the company would be
associated with a football club!

So that it could be the company of FCBarcelona! And so painted in blaugrana colours but I think that would too controversial!!!!

The businessmen will always have the alternative to fly with other carriers. Some of them will never fly an LCC, believe me!

Gaudi would be a nice idea :!: :D

If they would paint the planes like the taxis in Barcelona
it would maybe look to much like Hapag LLoyd Express.

Their slogan: Fliegen zum Taxipreis.

Associated with FC Barcelona ?

Vueling wouldn't be happy with that
Vueling is official carrier of FC Barcelona.

GAUDI, TAXIS, BUSINESSMEN AND FCBARCELONA ...

Post by catair »

When I said Gaudi I didn't mean just to copy Gaudi style I just meant
to give to the plane an organic look as Gaudi buildings.
In this case
I suppose the plane could look like a bird and if you add a Barcelona
taxi look it could look like a kind of crow! (All black with a yellow beak).

The German low-cost seems to have thought about taxis first ...

Well, I just said that about the taxis because the taxis of Barcelona are
an exception in the sense of their colour!: All the cities around the peninsula have white taxis so that the taxis of Barcelona look
very special. ( I think in Bangkok they are also black and yellow, aren't they?)

I have imagined a total black plane with some yellow at the tail and maybe a kind of beak ( a look that when you look at it it makes you laugh because it is funny) But I suppose it would be crazy to paint a plane of color black because it would heat itself to much!

About businessmen I cannot imagine them either in the subway ...

About FCBarcelona I just mentioned it a bit as a joke and also because its

president has been considered to preside Catair (as politicians Miquel Roca or Narcís Serra)

Well, I checked it. And all continues as before...
Catair continues being the name of the holding and the commercial name has to be decided.
And because the holding of Catair is formed by 5 parts I suppose
that the name is still to be decided.
Who knows, maybe some registered Air Mediterraneo, etc because they
liked it and other registered ClickAir.com.
So at the end they have more than one choice.
