The Boeing 737 has to be my least favourite of all Boeing aircraft that I've been on (each Boeing jet model except the 757 and 777).
I cannot say I like the type as a whole, though I've had some reasonable flights in 737s, I also have to say that my worst ever flight experience was on an aircraft of this type (TF-FIC "Vedis" of Icelandair). That put me off flying with Icelandair and I haven't been to Iceland since, but it doesn't matter because now I go to Belgium every year instead.

I mostly have a love-hate relationship with the 737.
I do just love the 737-200. But in a lesser way loved the 737NG because actually it just contains a lot of old technology and Boeing sells it as a "new" airplane. In that way I loved the airbus more. BUT now I guess I just love them both. They both have their charm. Fact is that you really "fly" a 737OG (up to -500). They are actually wonderful pieces of metal. Best Boeing except the 767 (don't like the 757 and I really don't like the 777, it looks so "bulgy").

As far as the so-called new generation is concerned, I've just flown the Ryanair -800s (CRL-STN/PIS/CIA) from the two first batches:
- EI-CSC / F / G / Q
- EI-DEB
Unfortunately I have not flown yet in one the new-liveried -800s

Sorry to be the trouble-maker, but I see two main drawbacks in the B737 compared to the A32S:
1) The A32S is wider than the B737: this enable some airlines, most notably LH, to make the dreadful middle seat wider that the window- and aisle-seats, thus providing more comfort to the poor passengers strapped in that seat.
2) The windows of the B737 are too low, obliging the tall passengers like myself (and even more Sabena_690) to bend uncomfortably in order to have a look outside.
Apart from that, it is a wonderful plane. I still remember my first flight aboard a Sabena 737 from Le Bourget to BRU. The SN timetable still scheduled a Caravelle, and to my great surprise, instead, I got a brand-new 737, still with the smell of a factoty-new car!

The location of the third engine on the 727 is not unique!
Take a look at the DH Trident, the TU-154, YAK - 40 and YAK-42, all have the same third engine placement (ie below the tail fin) as the 727.
Also to some degree the L1011 (the TriStar for those who do not know their aircraft!!)

And have we forgotten our Russian friends? The first Russian jet, the Tu-124 had the same design.On the Comet the engines were integrated into the root of the wing, on the 737 they are in small pods. There is no other passenger aircraft with the same engine design of the Comet!!!!

On the Comet they are incorporated into the wing.

And, as a native speaker of English I can assure you that what your post was saying was that the 737 had unique engine placement, a bit like the engine placement of the Comet.
Whilst the Russian aircraft mentioned by Andre had engines blended into the wing root, only the DH Comet (of civilian aircraft) had two engines blended side by side in the wing root (the other aircraft to display this engine placement is the BAe Nimrod, which was the military derivative of the Comet airliner).
