I was last wednesday at the VEX press conference about their new business concept which allows you, to pay (10 €) for more leg room (first six rows) and choose out of a selection of "D'lish" meals.

And I have to say, the food was delicious and I find this a very good idea. You decide what you want to eat, and the food is excelent :D :D :D
A lot of "full fare" companies even don't offer meals that fulfil those two conditions. And don't think that if meals or drinks are offered "for free" that they realy are free. You probably paid already much more than it's worth for it when buying the ticket.

So flying "business" with VEX on a one way trip with as much room leg as in the business of a "full fare" company, and with a meal that you decide by your own what it will be, will coast you only about 10 € for the seat and +/- 12 € for the meal. A whole world of difference with the price of some "real" business tickets.

Sure but VEX is not such a low cost airline as Ryanair and Easyjet. The prices are higher and you can better compare VEX with Basiqair here in Holland.
The only thing I am thinking about is that Belgium should create a big national carrier fast before it is to late.
Look what happens now with KLM, and they are pretty big comparing them to SNBA.
Even we are going to loose our national airline and in 5 years it will probably have the name DAF (Dutch Air France ;) ).
Even Belgium wants to have his own national carrier and be big enough to stay Belgium they have to merge. It doesn't matter with who but just merge, VLM or VEX just grow!
The aviation world is changing and time for independency is over, One World, Sky Team and Star Alliance will be covering the globe. If SNBA wants to get into one of those alliances they should grow asap and start talking bussines. Looking at the code shares SNBA has they would fit in the best with One World and then they should sit much better then KLM in Sky Team.

Just a little history:

Vex was formerly known as Eurobelgian Airlines (EBA) and Transeuropean Airlines (TEA).

A company can change quickly... and so can its crew. If tomorrow they decide to give a full service, with lots of legroom... they crew will easily adapt to that...

Given the fact that SNBA and VEX are not 'bad' companies... they would have a chance WORKING TOGETHER, competing each other is like having two 'fritures' in one street... you all understand the image.

Look what KLM is doing now... they change their cabin crew occupation to what VEX has: the minimum crew required: a 737-300 has 1 purser and 2 CA.

People just open your eyes, airtravel is changing and companies have to follow the trend... (my grandfather still speaks how nice the boats to America where out of Antwerp)... we 'll be the generation to tell our grandchildren: 'yes, when I was young, flying was a luxurious activity' :)

In a statement released today (https://www.aviation24.be/article2063.html), Virgin Express's Chairman said that merger discussions between SN BA and VEX continue.

The Virgin press release is very detailed and gives a lot of interesting information and figures.

One wished that SN Brussels Airlines could be as transparent.

I am beginning to wish I was flying with VLM next September. At least I know they are not going into some stupid merger, with this stupid merger idea I am not even sure which airline I will be flying with in September. I booked with SNBA, but will I end up flying with Virgin Express instead? I hope not!!!

This might be the first (and last) time I opt for SNBA. Give me LCY over MAN any day, give me full service over low cost any day.

Hello
Who wants this merger between SNBA and Virgin Express??
The banks!!!
They want to save more money, and that could be easier with a merger SNBA/VEX.
SNBA is losing money since her beginning, and the banks want their money back.
I don't think that they (SNBA and Virgin) want to merger.
I prefer the stand alone.
So, wait and see

You'd book a passage on the mall, Comet, you would not be sure either! Times are changing faster and faster...

Yes Fons - times are changing in aviation, and not always for the better. I had my first flights to Belgium in the good old days of Sabena. I only flew with Sabena four times before they went bankrupt and then I flew four times with VLM (superb carrier!!) and next year I will fly twice with SN Brussels. But I wish that the times had not changed, and that the flight was still operated by Sabena. It would be another change for the worst if this merger went ahead and SN decided to concentrate more on low cost type service.

That has happened on Aer Lingus. Okay, they haven't merged with a cheap carrier, but they are so determined to become more like Ryanair that their in-flight service has really suffered, and many people who liked them before do not like them as much.
