Another thing which bothers me is that looking into the forums I have the impression that a number of people are going for quantity instead of quality.
I wish people would only contribute if they really have something constructive to say. And I also wish that people would back up there posts with some facts.
When people just say "I like C" or "I like D", it cannot lead to a normal discussion. They can tell their preference that's not the problem but if only they would tell us why they like "C" or "D"....
That's a more serious problem IMHO.

Well yes but who is silly enough to aim to become the biggest weekly or monthly poster on this website? Quit a childish behavior but we all pretty much know who they are! And they don't even try to hide themselves:jan_olieslagers wrote: Yes. But this phenomenon is encouraged by the member ranking system giving people a higher quotation if they post more - without ever considering the content.
"I'm a teenager proud of it don't mind spelling mistakes and aim to become the biggest poster whatever it takes! Oh and why should I listen to you I can't be bothered to use the spell-check button far too difficult!"
Apparently certain people are!
I suggest we do not display the number of posts anymore. Main reasons for this being that
1 it doesn't matter, I'm not interested in it and I think only a few people care about the number of posts
2. it encourages silly, almost empty and 90% of the time off-topic posts of members that don't have anything to contribute
I know the logic behind such a rating system, but personally I think that if you belong to a community for long enough, you are capable to make your own judgement of people, regardless of the ranking and based on far more relevant criteria such as relevance, content and sources of posts rather than merely numbers. To be honest, I'm tired of reading half an hour on a topic and then finding out that it degraded to a mindgame between two members. Such discussions can be done via mail and don't contribute anything to the community of luchtzak members.
Statements like 'I think airbus is better than boeing' (just giving an example) should IMHO be founded or banned, no way between.
Therefore, I suggest we consistently report irrelevant posts, for the sake of quality instead of quantity!
Kind regards,
Tom

Maybe a "Respect Rating" wouldn't be so bad. If I am not mistaking, they use this system om Airliners.net. You can choose who to give your respect and who you won't give it to. This way you will be able to see who makes a good contribution to this website, as this person will most likely have a high respect rating ! Just a thought ...
I also think it wouldn't hurt to hide the number of posts. Indeed some people only think of that and simply post in order to post and get their rate up
Anyway, something has to change, cause the way it's going lately ... I'm beginning to get the feeling this is becoming a kindergarten.

Not a bad idea but this says nothing more imho...you will create favorites respecting favorites just because they "like" each other and not for the relevant posts. A.Net forum is very informative but not too relevant either...with all due respectAndries wrote:Maybe a "Respect Rating" wouldn't be so bad. Kindergarten? I have nothing against 'kids' as long as they know their frontiers (maybe not the right saying in English but ok). I think its the new youth (not everybody off course!) which is becoming very sure about themselves...this is not only remarkable in fora you know...sometimes its quite good to come up for yourself but I only had bad experiences with some... but thats only me...respect has to come from both sides. Older people have to respect the youth and vice versa...thats the problem I THINK.
Sunny regards,
Tommy

@Vinnie-Winnie: regarding your posting, that many mature members disappeared, I'm still here, but it's, meanwhile, very rare that I post something, and the reason therefore is quite simple - called "lack of time"
maybe, that's the circumstance for the others, as well.
and for the main topic - as there is a Dutch/French/German Forum, why not open under these sides a forum called "Under 14" ?
Kind Regards,
Jumbolino.
PS: Personal remark - SpellCheck seems not to be working with MAC OS X and Opera used as browser - keep in mind, I wrote "seems"
maybe, that's the circumstance for the others, as well.

This is exactly one of the problems. If people are not sure of their answer then they should clearly mention it. But lately more members tend to pretend they know but in fact they don't.... I have nothing against people who don't know things. I myself don't know a lot as well. But if you don't know something then clearly state that what you're writing are just assumptions.
There's a difference between "I think it is", and "It is", but unfortunately some younger member don't know the difference yet.
The other thing is the source where people get their information. Many sources on the internet are just not credible even if they seem to be so. Here again some younger member who might be less critical could more easily think they have a good source, while in fact it's the opposite.
Oh well, life goes one.....
As for the number of posts and the race to be number one poster
Chris
The 'eternal aviation word' etc. topics don't help with the number of posts...
I personally never look at the numbers anymore, because some members have most of their posts from these topics...
The easiest way is just to recognize the persons you'll want to ignore, and enjoy the rest of the fora... Just like real life

I'm not in favour at all of getting a "respect rating"-system, or whatever tool that rates certain users higher than others.
What I do is skip certain nicknames when I'm browsing through the topics. Not an ideal solution, but who is the crew of luchtzak.be to ban people because they have "nothing to say" (there is no definition of "nothing to say" anyway).

Yeah probs! Though looking through old posts noticed that for example SN broken 747 nose just totally disappeared for example! (No disrespect!) Though his posts were quit often controversial he really did put a lot of research and effort in his posts! Where is he gone?Jumbolino wrote:@Vinnie-Winnie: regarding your posting, that many mature members disappeared, I'm still here, but it's, meanwhile, very rare that I post something, and the reason therefore is quite simple - called "lack of time"

Far better than " call the A318 cocktail weener because it's so short"
Not in favour of an icon which would show someone's respect level... That is open to abuse as well!
I'm in favour of temporary bans! They are supposed to make U think about what you have done wrong no?

Just a hint! for those of you who are not yet at a comfortable level in communicating in English try reading a few posts where pronunciation and grammar are used in the correct manner.
I know its very difficult at times to understand the English mannerisms and multiple uses of the same word with different meanings, but you have to try to understand the context in which they are used.
But I completely agree that instant messaging short cuts should be eliminated entirely, everyone posting here has lots of time to compose and research their response, and with time and practise you will all become accomplished English communicators. Also be aware that the U.S. uses different spelling and in some cases meanings for words, just to add to the confusion.
