Fujifilm Finepix S9500?

Hi all,

I was wondering...
I want to buy a camera for spotting.But i don't know that much about good cam's.So now is my question: what do you think about the Fujifilm Finepix S9500?

An excellent review of an astoundingly good camera, and one of the best lens's in the business. I have a good friend who is a Pro photographer and he absolutely loves it.

Well I have just started taking pictures. I bought a Canon 350D, very good camera. I have read reviews that people say it feels small, but I rate it. The software for it is very good, also you get vouchers for money off on Canon products as well as a good warantee.

All depends on the money you like to spend and how often you go spotting.

If money is no problem and if you like to go spotting every weekend or so. Then I would recommend you the Canon 350D or Nikon D50.

When you will spot a few times a year. And like to use your camera for other occasions. Maybe a compact camera with a great zoom and image stabilizer will fit your needs. In this case the Fuji S9500, Canon powershot S3 IS or Panasonic Lumix FZ7 will suit your preferences.

I've had a Canon EOS 300D, very good cam, but I missed some features on it (like Servo AF when shooting in RAW), then I got a 10D that had this feature. After a while I got a 20D, which I still use, but I got a 350D and since a couple of days a 30D ... So you can say I stick with Canon because I'm satisfied with them. Small remark about the 350D, I also find it rather small, certainly when you put a big zoomlens on it (like Sigma 50-500), but maybe with a batterygrip on it that point improves, but now the 350D is used with a Canon 28-135 IS lens.

Before using the DSLR's, I've had a Minolta Dimage Z1, which was used as a football after a few days, the delay between pushing the button and the cam making the picture was too big, and a (D)SLR doesn't have this problem

I own a Panasonic Lumix FZ5 (with at 12x optical zoom and leica lense) and went spotting at EBBR a while ago... I was pretty pleased with the results, keeping in mind that this a bridge-camera and no dSLR. There is however a noise-level that you won't get with the Canon-Nikon-Olympus SLR's, but that's easily corrected in photoshop.

I think this is a great learning-camera with lots of possibilities, but without the cost of the big cams.

I've heard positive things about the Lumix brand. The only negative one is the amount of noise it has. Hope Panasonic can improve that in the future!

Can you post some pictures taken with your camera? And which noise reducer do you use?

I went to 2 camera shop's where I could compare the both cam's.
I must say the S9500 is MUCH better than the most Nikon series.I heared a lot of EOS but when I saw the Fujifilm I was convinced.

You pay less for the S9500 compared with his featurs than a Nikon serie.
The S9500 has many more features and a greater zoom.You can use 2 memory sticks at the same time,etc....

Really I didn't made a mistake for buying the S9500

BUT IT IS STILL MY OPINION

If you go out there and shoot some pictures, can you send me some oriniginal files or something? I'm also thinking about buying a new camera, because I used my old camera (Fuji S304) way to much..

the Fuji S9500 could be a good candidate for replacing my S304

hello skyfighter,

i own a fuji finepix s9500.

it is an excellent allround camera for everyday use.
i especially like the lens, which has a great range (28-300)
the lens is fixed, so you cannot use a second lens, but this is also an advantage, because no dirt can enter the camera.

the eyeviewfinder is in fact a small lcd (no mirrors!), but the resolution is enough for manual focus (you can enlarge the middle of the screen for focussing) - i mostly use the single focus setting anyway.

automatic mode is great, but you can also use the manual mode, which turns the camera in a classic camera, where you can change exposure and aperture manually; you can also set the iso sensitivity from iso80 to iso1600.

i also like the "cascade" shooting, where you can store the last 4 pictures (handy for moving objects).

if you decide to buy this camera, i recommend the following options:
1Gb sandisk compactflash card (450 pictures in normal 9Mpixel mode, 225 in fine 9Mpixel mode, 15 minutes of video (avi format))
4 memorex AA 2500mA rechargable batteries (3 weeks of normal allround use without recharging)

yes indeed, they are all taken with the Fuji S304..
Its a nice camera..
But the problem for me is it has only 220mm and 3,2 megapixels, and I'm looking for something bigger now...

As a noisefilter I use the neat-filter ( google it), though I'm going to experiment in photoshop too... keep in mind I'm only a beginner at both spotting and editting...
