Farmers complaint at EBBR

Post by funnelweb »

To all,

On April 27, I was spotting at the rnw 02 when a farmer came to me to make a complaint against us on 2 points: 1- many people walk through the fields and destroy the crops and, 2- not the least, many people let their garbage (empty metallic cans and/or plastic bottles) when they leave their place. He was still polite but rather nervous and would appreciate that we respect their work and fields. Let's reckon that this is not exagerated, look around where you spot.

I know that this is mainly the fact of "unknown" visitors but some of us do perhaps the same. Please try to keep our favourite places clean, we do not need to have problems with local farmers. I thank you for your understanding.

Regards

He certainly has a point.
This situation is also visible when spotting at 25L or near the refugee center.

Or at the Sandhills, the same situation. Garbage along the fence.

The visitors are not only quilty, also some spotters. When I'm going to spot for some hours I have always a plastic bag with me for my garbage and I put it the dustbin at my home. I would ask to the other people to do the same.

If you see other spotters or visitors doing this ask him/she to take the trash with him/she !!! Because otherwise spotting in BRU will become even worse and that it might be their fault then !!!

The most important thing is that the places we are able to make some good shots stay open !!! Without making it harder for those farmers and other people !!!

Agreed, it is life... But life is too much about people who don't care about others (and about other's hobbys)!!! Even as we have a precious hobby, those farmers have theirs (and even their living) next to the airport.

Maybe 'it is life', but it is also an opportunity to make it - life - better; for both parties! I agree with Tim that these - 'our' - spotting places need to stay open. Therefore, we need to do some efforts too ('geven en nemen', as we say in Dutch - don't know the English translation).

Let us work together, fellow spotters, to keep the spotting places clean and to respect other's properties, so that maybe... others (BIAC, farmers,... whatever) note our enthusiasm and dedication...

Regards,
Wim

You're completely right Glider...It's life, but that doesn't mean it's "the good life"

Maybe BIAC can "build" some places where you can stand for spotting like on heathrow or schîphol.

I know there are many safety rules but what is wrong with spotting :?
They closed the wall at 25R (where you could take one of the nicest pictures.)What is next?A special pass for entering the area around Brussels Airport :P

Maybe if we ask in great numbers to BIAC for more oppertunitys for spotting...

Spotting is not a crime he

What about you, spotters, to start acting:
- by keeping the spotting places tidy
- by inviting others to act similarly
- by putting a sign in 4 languages to ask everyone to keep the place clean
- by asking the local authorities to put garbage bins
- etc. (let your imagination work!)

Some time ago (2 years almost I think) there were talks here of organising a clean up and put some signs after that... I guess it al just stayed with talking and no action was taken...

I still wanna go ahead with this, but I'm not gonna do it on my own offcourse... If others are keen, please discuss it here...

Perhaps we can organise a meeting where we will of course wear our Luchtzak T-shirts and clean up the spotting places at the same time?
Like some people do in their streets.
A nice action to show the public that we respect the enviroment and the rules.

In fact, it did take action. Together with some fellow spotters (4 or 5), we visited some spots to spot, and simultaneously we cleaned them up...

Good to know that there are still some candidates to do the same thing! Personally, I would like to join again, but the coming weeks are extremely busy for me (school reasons). I can use every free moment, but from 13th June, there would be no problem.

Good idea (IMO) from MD-11 to wear our T-shirts to be more recognizable! Maybe some luchtzakkers know some journalists of local (and why not national) media? ;-)

No thanks :P

Maybe a petition (or something like that) for asking special places were we can spot. Many airports havethis, why should they do that:
-no garbage in the surroundings
-they can control "the special place" with security guards
-etc.....

Maybe they can open te roof at Apron 3 for free visitors...

But who am I to say that

You want a free spottingplace, but don't want to spend a little of your time to help cleaning up some of the areas ...

The current financial situation isn't so at the moment they will make some cost to give others free pleasure ...

In the past there was already such a "plan", and suddenly there was a deep silence...

*Sigh...* As said in a previous post; there HAS BEEN an action like this, but with only 4 or 5 enthusiasts... Better luck next time?

I wasn't aware of this, and normally I visit these forums quite regularly...
I would certainly have joined you guys, if only I knew...
Should we try to organise this again?
