BRU: terminal A closed due to security reasons

Post by Jense »

Hi all

When waking up this morning, I heard something vague about a possible bomb threat at Brussels (source: donna.be). Though, half an hour later I can't find anything on the Internet (vrtnieuws.net, biac.be, ...).

I've noticed some delays on departures, but no delays (yet) on arrivals.

Someone with confirmation what's going on? Or was it another nonsens spread into the world?

A passenger was able to run into the secured area of Terminal A. They are now looking for that person and therefor security personel decided to evacuate the terminal. Passengers are forced to wait at the security check. Terminal B remains active.

Pier A Evacuated

Post by Depretair »

One more asshole on earth ! How can this kind of thing happen in an international airport ? Does someone know why are the flights delayed for so long ?

It's not that difficult... If you just start to run when you're on the screening machines, what else obstructs you to further entrance into the pier...? Not much indeed!

Probably because BIAC wanted to be sure there wasn't more behind the men's run, wich is quite normal after 9/11.

Thanks for changing the title, blacky. At the moment I heard it I didn't have more information to put a better title.

I have just been to Abelag to see the biz and there are a few SN's and a Malmo down on the DHL stands, now it makes sense.

Hi,

When I waked up this morning it was on the news on Radio Globo, and also on this site, ( in portuguese).
As a matter of fact, there are more details on the internet site than in La Libre.
I think the right decision was taken (to close the terminal A). Most of the flights affected seem to be of SN. Sorry for them and the passengers.

15 SN flights cancelled. OK, but why mostly SN flights? Most other companies seem to have maintained their flights, albeit with a delay.

Small delays are still there after flights resumed at around 10:30.

And how come that the flight to Dakar and Monrovia, which leaves from unaffected Terminal B, is delayed from 10:40 to 17:00? Although the B763 that will fly the route arrived on time this morning.

Because other companies need their aircrafts at their main hub, so they have to depart whatsoever. If SN would have delayed the morning rush with about four to five hours, both midday and evening peak would have been delayed too. So better cancelling the morning flights and leaving (about) on time for the rest of the day. Too bad for the morning-PAX that have been rebooked on later flights (most of them on STBY).

Nothing to do with the security crisis. Some delay was expected because of some sort of computernetwork problem for the DKR/ROB flight (other longhaul flights were OK). PAX for this flight could only check-in after 0900, so a small delay was expected. I'll let you know the details later today for the long delay.

So much space to catch somebody @ A pier, and so much manpower around that time and Securair could not even stop this guy before going up the elevator ????.

Just shows you how Security and customer service don't go together.
How passive can you be, just let the guy run...... great job, makes me feel so safe !.

DKR/ROB flight was delayed because of "technical", I know no further details.

About the 'passiveness' of the Securair staff: we weren't there, so we cannot conclude wether the security agents were negligent or not. If the PAP ran away up the stairs and mingled among the other PAX, it is simply impossible to find him.

BTW, security footage shows that minutes after the incident, the PAP already left the airport (obviously he concluded that it was not wise to stay :D ). Since CSI does not exist in real (at least not in Belgium) it is not so simple to identify someone merely on CCTV footage.

How could BIAC conclude that the airport was safe, since they were unable to catch the passenger? Were they sure he had left the airport when they reopened Terminal A?

I now hope that the video will enable police to identify the culprit and make him pay for the chaos he created.

Hello All,

The story I heard that the person who disappeared was actually in the terminal where mostly European flights (no visa, no passport flights) happen. The other terminal they reckon the business was usual as the immigration/passport control in action. In other words, they will get the guy without his passport.
They didn't want this guy to disappear into the European flights.

I hope what I heard was correct and make sense to you guys in Brussels.

Cheers.

The delay of the ROB flight was caused by a fault in the fire extinguishing system.
The other terminal they reckon the business was usual as the immigration/passport control in action. In other words, they will get the guy without his passport.
That has nothing to do with it. He fled at the security controls and they have completely nothing to do with passport or anything. He probably had papers otherwise he wouldn't be able to check-in. Anyway, after having seen the video images it seems the man just fled back out of the airport building.
