They will buy them. Read today an article about this topic. They even mentioned 8 aircrafts instead of the 7 I wrote at the beginning of this topic.regi wrote:I didn't check the details, but did El Al really BUY the planes, or did they lease them? Some of the larger leasing companies have very close ties with Tel Aviv.
El Al will choose A330 for replacement B767

I must say I rather agree with that.TexasGuy wrote:fokker_f27 wrote:I still think they're better off with the 787. A330 are a fairly ond design now, so the 787 or A350 seems a good deal, because even tough you have to wait, it will pay off: 787 are state-of-the-art planes. If I where them, I would wait, but those 767s are really starting to get old.
Are they not re-doing the interiors of thier 767's? As for the age of the plane, its a tank. Interior upgrades will do the job from a passenger standpoint. The Boeing and MD aircraft were built to last.
"Old" B737's or DC9s or A300s are still in service with many airlines and performing very well I think ...
And neither do I understand the hurry for LY to retire the B767 fleet as passenger comfort can , as you rightly mention, be significantly upgraded through appropriate renewal of the interior and services associated ...
Can someone tell me what's the hurry ?
(Not that I disapprove the choice of the A330 which is indeed currently the state of the art ! I just question the financial opportunity...and maybe the strategy also .......)

Are they maybe getting older then the recomended age? What is it on the 762?Can someone tell me what's the hurry ?
Currently the A330 is the most moderen in that class, but In a few years, when the 787 and A350 will fly, then the A330 design will become much less of the most state-of-the-art.

With the big difference that the A330 will be much cheaper to buy than the future 787/A350.fokker_f27 wrote:Currently the A330 is the most moderen in that class, but In a few years, when the 787 and A350 will fly, then the A330 design will become much less of the most state-of-the-art.

But still, I think EL AL can afford 787/a350. Even tough the aircraft themself are more expencive, the fuel savings will (especially with fuel costs like now) probably make up for that.Airbus_fan wrote:With the big difference that the A330 will be much cheaper to buy than the future 787/A350.fokker_f27 wrote:Currently the A330 is the most moderen in that class, but In a few years, when the 787 and A350 will fly, then the A330 design will become much less of the most state-of-the-art.

A commercial airliner is one off the few real "Black Holes" on earth - you just stuff $1,000 bills into a hole every time you re-fuel. Airbus lists the fuel capacity of the A330-200 as 97,170 liters (25,670 gallons). At today’s cost of $2.21 per gallon, it costs $56,730 for every fill-up – do this twice a day and you run into BIG money – every day for 20 years! To be competitive, Airbus must either offer a plane that meets or beats competitive offerings or cut their price drastically to give a net value cost equaling the long-term fuel savings.
This maybe true, but look at it this way....if EL AL owns the 767 and not lease them, ownership alone would offset the cost of higher fuel and make the immediate purchase of replacement aircraft not so urgent....fokker_f27 wrote:But still, I think EL AL can afford 787/a350. Several valid aviation sources (Jane’s, etc.) have reported that the B787 costs less to produce than the A-330/350 due to lower labor assembly requirements. There is no riveting of the carbon composite assemblies and thus lower costs. I am not sure if Boeing will use any cost advantage (they have to pay off the huge capital investment in design and production tooling), but there is the potnetial.Airbus_fan wrote:With the big difference that the A330 will be much cheaper to buy than the future 787/A350.fokker_f27 wrote:Currently the A330 is the most moderen in that class, but In a few years, when the 787 and A350 will fly, then the A330 design will become much less of the most state-of-the-art.
