Even super fighters aren't perfect. If it would have happened on an F-16 I think you wouldn't call it embarrassing so fast because there's always that sort of thought about the Raptor like: "it's a super fighter, nothing can go wrong". It is superior in warfare but all the mechanical systems inside can also fail, just like with any other plane. Altough, with the Raptor, all the systems will be made better and more failsafe than those in most of the other fighters.
But I agree that it is a bit of a shame it happened.

Maybey they weren't fully confident with the system of the canopy, as in March a landing gear pin of the nose landing gear was sucked up by the right engine of an F-22, causing a lot of damage($6.7 million) and in the report they called it a direct result of inadequate and incorrect technical order guidance.

They could try if the zero-zero ejection seat was working in stead of cutting the canopy in pieces, then they where sure that system was working ... :wink:
