The SNBA fleet will not be renewed before 2010 !

I think the RRJ is a good contender for the EMB170 fam and SN is tending towards the RRJ see the article in FLight global

there were already talks last year, and the people coming back from rusia were very positive about the project.
BTW the RRJ is a russian project but several companies in the eu and usa deliver parts for the RRJ and now with alenia having a stake in sukhoi the RRJ might also be build in italy in a later stage

Yes, you know that, I know that, most of the Aviation Enthousiasts know that, bu the General Public doesn't !fly wrote:BTW the RRJ is a russian project but several companies in the eu and usa deliver parts for the RRJ and now with alenia having a stake in sukhoi the RRJ might also be build in italy in a later stage
Just do the test and ask someone without any real knowledge of the Aviation Industry : "What would you rather fly ? A Boeing, an Airbus or a Russian Built Jet ?" You can be sure that less than 2% will answer "the Russian Built Jet" ... Public Opinion is very important ! If people think the aircraft you fly aren't safe, or if tgey don't really trust those RRJ's, then you can be sure they will chose for a competitor of SNBA with Airbusses or Boeings !
We all know that if aircraft aren't safe, they are not allowed to fly in our airspace, hence the certification process with each aircrafts prototype. We all know this might/could be the correct choice for SNBA in a technical/financial/availability way, but do not forget the most important part : The passenger and what he/she thinks !
Greetz,

Hi all,
I think we should be careful about the "passenger" argument. I'm pretty sure half of the people that are flying have no idea about the aircraft they're flying with. So I am pretty sure that a lot of passengers won't even *know* that the plane they're flying with is Russian built. It's similar to the situation when people book their holidays through a travel agency: a lot of them don't care or even don't know what company they're flying with, let alone the type (or built) of plane...

You are quite right : most passengers don't know what aircraft they board.statler wrote:Hi all,

But people watch television and read newspaper.
SNBA buying Russian aircraft would be sure to make big titles on the front pages and on the TV news in Belgium. With appropriate comments.
I am pretty sure a lot of Belgian would know, be surprised - and disapprove.

If SNBA wants to buy aircraft that the passengers like, it should have like a web poll asking the passengers what aircraft they would reather fly. Off course with details of every aircraft. But not only what passengers think, but how the plane performs is important. I'm sure passengers would love to fly the Concorde, but many airlines cancelled their orders. But, I would see SN buy Embraers instead of RRJs. SN is more of a westeren type airline.

A golden rule in aviation is that you never hit out at rivals over safety because you never know what might happen to you.
Ryanair attacks the other airlines on prices, ponctuality, etc... but never over safety, as far as I know.
I very much doubt Ryanair would hit out at SNBA for using Russian aircarft.
Moreover, is SNBA really a serious rival for Ryanair ?

Good comment and absoluately true.. its a common rule of conduct of every airline employee..airazurxtror wrote:A golden rule in aviation is that you never hit out at rivals over safety because you never know what might happen to you.
