thats good that shanghai airways gets to join, they needed some 'back bone' at certain moments, now they can rely on their star alliance members, ONE questione does anyone know who was the airline of the year in 2005 ? KLM-AIR FRANCE?

Seems good since most Star Alliance mambers are based in Europe. It's also a good thing for Shanghai Airways. But how are they going to fit all the logo's on a plane with so many members?

depends which 'airline of the year' award you mean - there are so many different ones ... if you are talking Skytrax it was CX

You're talking about the ATW (Air Transport World) Airline of the Year.
Cathay Pacific won the ATW Airline Of The Year 2005 award, during the 2006 airline achievement awards ceremony (held in Feb 2006).
There are way too many entities giving similar awards worldwide in my opinion (Skytrax, OAG, ATW).

No big deal, I'm no big fan of Air Chance... (though I think their livery is still classy and good looking after 30 years)

Given that SAA (who are not in Europe) joined Star Alliance today, I thought I'd share this superb formation fly-by with you

http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1029821/M/

As per usual SAA try and steal the show....... apart from the crap weather in Joburg, this was a real tight formation fly-by

yeah, really beautiful, especially with that sleek and elegant A340-600 leading.
Yes, Star Alliance asks their members to paint at least one of their aircrafts in the Star livery. SAS has a 333 and an MD80 in those colors.

You're right, I don't see that aircraft much because it's based in Stockholm, not Copenhagen.

Is it just one aircraft that has to be painted in the Star livery, or is it a percentage of aircraft in the fleet that has to be painted? I seem to recall several different US Airways aircraft painted in the Star Alliance livery... B757 A319 and a couple of regional jets and turbo props.

I think it's just one aircraft per airline in fact.

What do these awards actually judge things on? I mean i haven't been on KLM and others, but I have been on Qantas/SIA/CX in recent 2 years or so, and what is so good about CX? Their seat pitch is high, food was bad until recently they have this something festival with well known restaurants providing the catering.. The best thing with CX is their service, both on the ground in HK and up the air. Otherwise I find SIA is better, service wasn't as good but the seat pitch is very obviously lower than that of CX>>>
